Hope all the players and staff make a speedy recovery for sure.

The greater concern will be around spread on campus and in Boone.

Probably originated outside of the football team, no? Only so many places students can congregate in Boone and based on what I've heard about many college towns, masks are worn on campus but not always off. Having visited both the coast and Caldwell County in the past three weeks, I can tell you that only about 40% of people are wearing masks. Can't imagine that Boone and Watauga County is much better.

They might be close, but demos in Caldwell and Boone are miles apart. I wouldn't be surprised at all if Caldwell's mask rate was half of Boone's.

I wouldn't say that they are miles apart outside of the campus life area.

I agree about the "outer rim" of the county, but most students spend their time in Boone itself. If they were hanging out in Meat Camp, Vilas or Zionville then I'd bet mask adoption would be similar to Caldwell.

I commuted to Lenoir for 5 years after graduation and that population is far different from that of Boone, even when you take out the students.

So apparently only 5 players are active and 4 of those have almost completed their 14 day quarantine. Talk about misleading headlines. Geez...

Being a member of the media myself (I use that term loosely...I produce a sports radio show and occasionally cover games), I know writers are pressured to create titles that will grab readers’ attention. Problem is, so few ever click and read the articles. Even then it SHOULD be on the writer to present all the facts and let you decide for yourself how you feel. But unbiased journalism doesn’t get you shared or paid.

It’s a tough place to be. People say they want unbiased but only share, retweet, or repost the most salacious stories. Readers tell you one thing then show you another.

The general public are ignorant and lazy when it comes to educating themselves. Journalist have reduced themselves to the lowest common denominator. Both parties pointing the finger in a circle jerk to the bottom.

I know what you're talking about, I graduated in 95 and worked very briefly in TV News. I would come in every day and read the AP news wire on the local, state and national headlines. There were soo many good news stories to report about, except the producers would choose the worst of the worst to air, and the stories that fit the narrative of the day. It became depressing and I had to get out. That was 25 years ago, today the Main Stream Media is even worse.

I'm not sure who originally posted it, but it's been reported by Ethan Joyce, App State beat writer for the Winston Salem Journal.

App already back to practice. Why I laugh at people that say "OMG the season's doomed" whenever stories like this come out.

The Quarantine for someone exposed to Covid via contacted with an infected person, but without a positive test is 14 days.

The Isolation period for someone with a positive Covid Test is 10 days provided they are symptom free with no fever for a 24 hour period.

For many of these players who get it without showing a symptom, they only have to isolate 10 days and can immediately return to practice afterwards, depending on what App's protocols are for checking for myocarditis.

What do you mean? The report of 11 cases was “technically” accurate if not misleading. A few days later it was reported that 5 of the cases had cleared protocols and practice had since resumed.

The original report may have been intentionally misleading, the reporter didn’t think to ask how far along in their recovery protocols each individual player was at the time, or the spokesperson chose not to divulge that information.

The chancellor botched this deal big time by not holding App Healthcare accountable for misrepresenting the numbers. She ordered practice shut down in order to score some much needed PR points with a Faculty Senate. Who just happened to give her a vote of No Confidence a few weeks back. I can't wait for that woman to retire..

One correction, the vote of no confidence was the day before. Interesting that nearly all of these cases were resolved or nearly resolved yet nobody knew about them until that day. I guess those positives weren't newsworthy the first 10-14 days?
