After seeing what Tulane did with a competent QB (and actually making the damn QB switch in game!), Im getting on the Will Hall train for now. Hell, he has as many ties as anyone to south MS, with his Dad being an icon of a HS coach. Hes 40 years old so young but not too young and has HC experience.

RE: Our Next Head Coach
I have no problem with Bennett regarding the Briles situation. Hopson made his own bed by going there in the first place, and ultimately Bennett just arrived at the same conclusion Mitchell presented to Hopson from jump street. Bennett’s biggest possible sin in all that would be allowing the interview to take place but then shooting it down, which a) we don’t even know happened and b) is well within his rights as the boss anyway. You’ll also notice no other college has touched Briles yet, so the decision was clearly not just some screwy USM thing.

It’s quite interesting how the homeboy coaches who fizzle out are always “hamstrung by the administration” but the guys who come in, win, and move on never seem to have that problem.

My only knock on him is Tulane & Memphis are the biggest programs he’s been in. Part of me thinks we need someone either directly from or at least not long removed from a P5 gig to give us the recruiting gravitas we need.

That’s a relatively small knock, though. He’s clearly on his way up in D1, and dude’s 56-20 as a HC with 3 conference Coach of the Year awards. We could do a lot worse.

Simple. Stop football and turn the rock into a mega baseball stadium. Pete will be an awesome practice field. The money saved can be put into the basketball team, gut that **** bowl and build a facility that will draw some elite players. Baseball and basketball will be in the top 10 every year. I can live with it!

There's no real money in college baseball with our fanbase. Killing football would be the end of our stay in D1.

I said when Eloss left to turn MM Roberts into a multipurpose facility for basket ball, concerts etc. But I said the same thing about Elam Arms after the tornado went through there. The latter location was perfect that. Could have gotten city, state and Federal money to do it.

This is stupid. All of it. Anyone that wants to drop football should never post on a USM message board again.

Maybe just drop a division. One of the worst teams in the worst conference. Been waiting for years to see some improvement but it just ain't happening. I'll hold out until the next coaching choice is made. Not optimistic about it.

Football won't be dropped at USM but i do see the possibility of going FCS one day.

RE: Our Next Head Coach
We can go undefeated 4-5 years in a row and it won’t matter much as far as our place in the football world at this point. That ship has sailed. The best thing that could possibly happen would be an AAC invitation, but there’s a giant chasm between even it and the P5. We don’t have to go to a lower division, it’s already come to us.

We just need to find a new conference situation that makes some kind of sense in terms of opponents and expense-to-revenue. The problem is you don’t want to make a move now not knowing what other options the next phase of realignment—which is coming sooner rather than later—will create.

I really don't care anymore. Its just that simple its just difficult to even get excited about anything in regards to USM football. The program is a joke and the administration isn't much better. I didn't even have a clue that there was a game this weekend. Over the past 30 years i would have never known there wasn't a game. I've lost any real interest at this point.

Ive changed my mind. Bring on Hugh Freeze. He may be a charlatan but he can coach and would be a HR / Power Hire. We need that like never before. I know he's making $2 - 2.5 million at Liberty but I think we can come up with enough to get him. He would love nothing more than to "come home" and compete against UM, MSU and the SEC in recruiting to stick it up their asses and get back in the SEC. Just give us a few years and pretend to wanna stay here for the rest of your life. Fine by me.

We need something that makes money. Having a full scale online university is not only the wave of the future but would also fill a need in our region.

Unfortunately, i see he signed a 5 year extension in 2019. If can afford him, we cant afford a buyout. He needs to get fired again.

We dropped football 8 years ago. We just happen to continue to field a team. Barely. We hemorrhage money on football. Basketball is where it's at and we play in a frickin planetarium. Our football stadium is waaaaay to big as it is. Drop to FCS and our games can be played over at Oak Grove.

Freeze is not the answer, and I believe you’d be hard pressed to find any high school coaches that have a great relationship with him after what happened at Ole Miss.
