Think Id rather Derrick than Tyrone. But yeah, there are several better candidates out there. Much better candidates.
Thats a picture of Croom btw.
What's the difference?

Because we can't pay $1million+.
our entire budget for assistants and head coach together may only be in the 1.5 -2 million range.
What's the budget for athletic dept. staff minus the coaches and AD?
And we just blew $1mil on that stupid f'ing stage thing!
Funded by the Alumni Association, not the university or the athletic department.

Not sure I really believe there is any intention to hire an $800k head coach. I think it is just too late. Scott is what you've got. Now live with it.

Any thoughts on the possibility of Will Hall as a prospective coach?

I’ve heard he’s a candidate, but I’m not sure we’re at a point where we’re even interviewing people.

Our first priority now is a recruiter. We got our asses handed to us today by guys from our own back yard.

I understand we don't have the players and don't mind losing to a team more talented. Team quit and that is concerning.

We’re in such a rut, it’s hard to sort out right now. When your lines are completely overmatched, Moses himself isn’t going to keep them motivated after they’ve gotten whipped for 2 1/2 quarters and are down 20 points.
At this point, I’m for cleaning house. Get every bit of this stench out & start fresh.

You mean starting with the President of the University all the way down to the NAIA players we have on scholarship, right?

I’m not overly concerned about Bennett as far as the football team goes. Monken won the division just fine with him sitting in the president’s suite.

With 2 SEC teams having new coaches and now Primtime at JSU, recruiting is going to be extra tough for the next 2 or 3 years. Don't know the answer for this...either a coach who commits to take us for the long haul bringing stability or someone with deep Mississippi roots or someone who'll bring excitement.

True. However, Bennett had a firm hand in the hiring of Hop, and then a firm hand in stopping Hop from hiring the assistant he wanted (Art Briles). And I know there are fans on both side of the Art Briles topic - I'm just saying if he was involved in the Art Briles hire/not hire then he takes the blame for hiring a head coach that would consider it since he hired the head coach.
I'm thinking Monken was hired before Bennett came in 2013. However, I must admit, I'm losing track and don't feel like taking the time to look it up. But your memory may be better than mine, so correct me if I'm wrong. If my memory serves me right, Bennett has no claim to that success. JMHO

A good recruiter is a must but i will have to agree with pineapple its going to be tough to get recruits. Concerning the game the o line and d line both are just terrible and for the most part undersized. The biggest issue on defense is the complete lack of speed at LB and lack of pass rush. USM has FCS talent at 90% of our positions and no depth

Monken was hired before Bennett arrived. Bennett took the job in March/April of 2013 (just in time to be there for my graduation), while Monken was hired in January.
We need an exciting voice that can reignite an apathetic fanbase and get recruits interested in us again. I know Deion is a factor in the state now, but JSU is still a FCS school that top talent isn't going to flock to. That's the nature of FCS.

We don't compete for players with any of those 3 schools. We compete directly with the 3 teams that have beaten us so far this year. We used to beat Tulane 52-7 year in year out after the score being 42-0 at the half. USM football is a joke now.
