MyBB LaNitra Perry Leaving
Announced on twitter she is leaving to take the assistant job at West Virginia. That's a big loss for the Rockets ... if there is a season.

hmm... Now if Mark Stephens was leaving, I'd worry. She left before.

Well UT now is down a coach, losing their Associate Head coach, primary defensive game planner, primary perimeter player developer, etc. And in the mean time, CMU announced their new Associate Head Coach Gail Goestenkors who is already in the hall of fame and is a former national coach of the year. Yikes.

Yes, some of the MAC has passed Toledo by. It's good to see the conference doing well, but it would be nice if the Rockets were a part of it.

CMU is on another level with women's hoops. they are almost like a Gonzaga on the men's side. a mid major that plays at a top 25 level and schedules, and beats, a lot of big name teams.

Agreed. Everyone loves Cullop but she has not done an outstanding job since her hiring...

Agreed, that TC is well liked and has done an admirable job while at UT...
Outside of fan support/financial support/facilities, it seems that the ladies program has dropped into being a middle of the MAC program...

Oh man, Central Michigan just hit a home run hire. It even captured Dick Vitale's attention. CMU is going to take the MAC by storm this upcoming season. Do you see our Lady Rockets improving from its 14-17 record? IMO, we should be seeing results that CMU is achieving right now. That 2011 WNIT title run proved our program is big time.

The Chippewas have gone 101-29 overall and 63-9 in the Mid-American Conference over the past four seasons. They advanced as a No. 11 seed to the NCAA Sweet 16 in 2018, knocking off No. 6 seed LSU and No. 3 seed Ohio State.

Central Michigan returns all five starters from this past season's team that went 23-7 (16-2 conference), including MAC player of the year Micaela Kelly. Oesterle, a longtime assistant to former Chippewas coach Sue Guevara, was in her first season as head coach in 2019-20 and was named MAC coach of the year.

Four of those nine losses came against one team.

Actually lady rockets lost five of top seven scorers from last year's team. Hard to see how they can be a factor if there is a season this year.

RE: LaNitra Perry Leaving
I am still wondering what the complete story is on how Goestenkors has ended up at CMU. I mean I know she is from Michigan and played for Guevara in college, so they had an inside connection. But, with her resume, you would think she would warrant a big salary even as an assistant, and as we all know, CMU just cut some things to save some minor dollars. So, is she volunteering or decided to take the job at below her deserved salary, and is so why?

I can't find what she has been doing since 2015 when she was a WNBA assistant, but she was reportedly a candidate for the open head coaching job at Duke (where she was previously) but did not get interviewed and Duke "wanted to go a different direction and not look to the past." This article indicates she is anxious to get back into college coaching. Maybe CMU is a 1 year stop for her until a big name school comes calling.

https://www.espn.com/womens-college-bask...e-mccallie

Anyway, this certainly strengthens CMU in the short term. Any other hall of fame coaches out there that want to spend some time working for Cullop?

Goestenkors was the head for Duke back in 2001-2002 when our Lady Rockets took down the #5 Blue Devils at Savage Arena.

Since 2015 she has worked in broadcasting and has been a coaching consultant.

Lauren Flaum (Director of Basketball Ops) is also leaving, taking a job at Tulane. She's a Toledo area native and went to EMU, so that's a big move for her. Apparently the recent hurricane did not deter her.

Another piece Cullop needs to fill quickly ... if there is to be a season.

Cullop makes twice as much as Oesterle.

Well, Cullop has 20 more years of head coaching experience. Also, she is 2-1 against Oesterle, so.
