I think the ACC should consider them as a 16th team if Notre Dame ever decided to become a full member.

Didn't they cancel football once, like a few years ago?

Yes, before the community and local businesses donated $40M for new facilities and a new $174M stadium construction began

Still makes me nervous with them. Look what they're competing with in that state. Nothing against UAB but ehhhhh, I don't know.

I hear you but Memphis competes with Tennessee, Tulsa competes with Oklahoma / Oklahoma State, etc...

While Georgia State is in the college football crazed south, even they compete with Georgia / Georgia Tech / and a NFL team.

I hear ya, but Memphis has been much better than UT for several years now. No way Tulsa is competing with OU, and no way UAB is competing with Alabama. Not to mention, Memphis has been to the FF in basketball three times. UT never. It really is apples and oranges. Make that apples and asparagus.

No doubt that Memphis is a quality program in both basketball and football. The Big 12 should have added Memphis and Cincinnati. I still think UAB is the best program available in a G5 conference not named the AAC from a football / basketball / academics standpoint. 2021 will be a telling season for them when the new stadium opens and things are back to normal.

I love UAB and the rivalry we've had with them over the years. I just really want us to distinguish ourselves as the AMERICAN. We have a great southern conference, the SEC. A great eastern conference, the ACC. A great northern conference, the Big 10. A great midwestern conference, the Big 12, and a great west conference, the pac 12. How do we distinguish ourselves?

I don't want us to be SEC light. We have enough southern teams with a few teams outside of that footprint. I want us to be a great conference in our own right. Make the American a great conference from across the entire country. Not just one part of it.

I say we go West, North, Southwest, and Northeast. The south is more than covered. I don't want to be in a conference that is just the low calorie version of one of those regions. We're the best of the rest. We're the American. That makes us unique. I believe that will make us P6.

We have to differentiate ourselves from the other regions to be included. That's our only way in imo. Otherwise, we're all just going to try to leapfrog each other to get into a P5 conference.

I say for now we go west. Make a statement.

You would enjoy this article about what was almost the Big East. Back in the days of Penn St, Florida St, Miami, Virginia Tech, etc all being independents. Penn State was one vote away from getting accepted as a Big East member. The plan was for all the major independents to join. It was not to be because they were one vote short.

You think uab should be added to the acc? Either you’re trolling or making a terrible joke.

We all played with uab in cusa. Just like the BE was hesitant to add temple bc of their history so to are we with uab. We all left to get away from schools like uab. They had sparse fan support then and although they have had an uptick it’ll have to be sustained. I really don’t see any upside to adding uab. I’d rather see AP state bc they’ve proven they can win.

No troll. I have a list of favorite teams that I follow and they are one of them, so I’m a little biased. However, watch and see the next couple of years. I think there is definitely a lot of upward movement taking place in both football and basketball. Check out their stadium progress -

I frequent the "realignment" board. I don't understand the seeming fascination that Georgia Tech fans have in telling the AAC what teams we "should add" and what this conference "should do."

As a matter of fact, you are so very similar to another poster, "GeorgiaTechFletch" that I wonder if you ARE "GeorgiaTechFletch." Anyway, your interest in the AAC is noted...thanks for the vote of confidence.

Haha..I’m not an alias. I just love college football, its history and have been following it since I was a kid. I have a few favorite teams in each conference. Another interesting fact, at one time Georgia Tech was in the Metro Conference which eventually became Conference USA.

UTK is a 5-6 hour drive from Memphis, while UAB is only 50 miles from Tuscaloosa, big difference. I've been to Birmingham on many occasions and can tell you, the majority of the populace of B'Ham couldn't give 2 $h!tz about UAB, in that city it's either Bama or Auburn and that's basically it. You mentioned UAB draws around 29,000 to their games, obviously you haven't been to one of their games lately, not even close to that number. So no to UAB in the AAC, as they add nothing towards the growth of this conference. Sorry to sound so harsh, but that's just the facts.

If the BE takes Penn St. - Nine school BE football as follows:

BC, Penn St, Miami, Pitt, Rutgers, VT, WV, Syracuse, Temple.

Cinn and L.Ville remain in CUSA, UConn stays at FCS, Nova returns at FCS level, ND still joins for BB only, Marquette and DePaul do not get picked up by the BE.

BE - All Sports all 9 FB members + BB / Olympic / FCS FB schools - ND (Independent FB), Nova (FCS FB), UConn (FCS FB), St. John's, Providence, Seton Hall for 15 total members. 07-coffee3

Penn State was Rejected for membership in 1982 (One of the basketball only schools probably rejected them), Joe Paterno wanted to put the emphasis on football.

Wonder if ND would have joined the conferee at all or maybe include football had Penn State joined and the BIG EAST followed Joe Paternos plan.

RE: BYU finally coming around on the AAC (Link) but do we really even want them now?
Cincinnati, Louisville, and one other might have joined eventually to get to 12 Football members.

Hopefully not Miami (FL) they started the exodus.

I know they were rejected. My reply was directed at - what if they had been voted in. 04-cheers

If... and BIG IF... Penn State would have gotten in and followed Joe Paternos plan today they might have been the best basketball conference and either 2nd or 3rd best football conference.

Back then most of the teams in the AQ conferences were playing as Independents and conferences only had 8-10 members.

Even with things being rigged against the non AQ football conferences no conference has yet send 11 member to the NCAA tournament in one season other than the BIG EAST.

BYU finally coming around on the AAC (Link) but do we really even want them now?

Apparently, this covid virus is the catalyst that has made them come around. 2/3s (66.4%) of that board would now want to join the AAC if a couple western schools would come along for the ride.

I have followed that board & even posted there from time to time since ECU started scheduling them back in 2015. This marks a stark 360 u-turn in their consensus. Usually, their inflated self esteem & grandiosity impede their ability to exercise reason but it's so obvious at this point that they cannot even deny the lure that the AAC offers them right now. To be fair, 1/3 of them are still blinded by self-aggrandizement but overall this represents a marked change in perception and thought.

But the big question is why would the AAC want an institution that wasn't there for us during the struggle but now wants to reap in the AAC's successes?

I hate to be “that grammar guy” but when you bring geometry in to it, a MAN has to take a STAND.

a “U-turn” is 180 degrees.

360 degrees is two U-turns, after which you would be going back the original direction.

That is all.
