The tickets were already scanned, and, therefore, touchless. People come up the strangest explanations/justifications when they are doing something they know customers might not like. Saving money by not printing tickets, for example. and forcing you to use your smart phone to enter a game.
So many athletic departments are doing this, and I wish there was more fan backlash against it.
People keep their tickets as mementos. This is very important to a lot of fans. These people should at least be afforded the option of a paper ticket, even if extra cost.

Stadium Club seats are doing indoor social distancing. Those that don't fit (or elect to sit outside like myself) will have an "outdoor patio club" directly below the stadium club seats. They'll have food and drinks provided, and have air conditioned fans.
Actually guys, I think digital tickets are the only logical option here. I would assume it would give them more flexibility if the seating restrictions change during the course of the season. They can simply update your ticket in their system & you get the new location instantly on your app.
I wasn’t happy when the Grizz did it a couple years ago, but it quickly grew on me & started using the digital options with concerts, airlines, & other places. And I have more grey than non grey hair now so it’s not something only younger ones can use.

Schools are doing it for cost reduction and counterfeiting issues. I suppose they could offer season tix holders a paper ticket option for an additional $50 or so. Might be a new revenue stream. I don't have a problem with it on surface.
However, there can be tech issues. If you're the account holder, and you want to give each person their own tickets, transferring can be a pain. Each person has to have their own account, and you have to keep up with which tix are assigned to which people, because they all still show up in your account. I've also seen 2 people turned away because they couldn't connect to their account at the gate. (You can't take photos any longer and use the photo. But you should always add the tix to your phone's wallet ahead of time.)
