Just cut the cord last month and went with Hulu Live +. Been very happy so far EXCEPT any program I DVR can’t fast forward through commercials. That totally sucks.

The extra $6/month to go add-free is worth it just for that IMO. I have had Hulu Live TV for 2 years now, and every complaint I've ever had about it (DVR size, UI, Old TV Guide) they've made significant changes that have markedly improved the experience. I just hope that they're able to hold on to the channels they've got and not see significant rate increases. When I started with Hulu Live TV it was $39.99/month and now it's $54.99/month...so what happened with Cable is happening with streaming, just at a lower rate so far.

As more people move to online distributions content providers are going to have to find ways to maximize their revenues. I think live TV streaming has long term advantages over cable because you have multiple options available without any equipment installation required. That should prevent the horrific cable business model of skyrocketing prices every 12 months and requiring people to threaten leaving. I think live TV streaming services is a bridge to direct distribution from the content providers but things move slowly in this market; I don't think direct distribution is going to be the primary method of live TV consumption in the next 5 years.

The internet thing is the service I'm more curious about. For me right now Cincinnati Bell has not wired my neighborhood for Fioptics so my only option for high speed internet is Spectrum. Someone mentioned the new T-Mobile home internet service which isn't available here yet but I signed up long ago to be notified when it does. 5G is fast enough to deliver reliable home internet so I think you'll eventually see multiple high speed home internet options delivered over cellular networks.

RealDeal, I am in the exact same situation. (maybe we are neighbors and don't know it?! 03-lmfao) Although, in my neighborhood, my brother lives about a block away from me and he is able to get Fioptics. It is definitely frustrating. The ONLY reason I haven't cut the cord yet is because I know Spectrum is going to jack up my internet rate when I do. I was ready to pull the trigger and go to Youtube TV but then they hiked their rate from $50 to $65. Hopefully another high speed option becomes available soon, so I can leave Spectrum altogether.

I've got you one better...my neighborhood in Toledo ONLY has service from Buckeye Cable, the local brand. When I say neighborhood, I mean the 8 street neighborhood within about 2 square miles of wooded real estate. Now normally, you'd be happy to have the local provider, but not when their standard rate for 100mbs internet with only a 250GB data cap is already $74.99. Once you go to unlimited data, it's at $104.99 plus tax...all while the guy two streets over is paying $54.99 for 100mbs with 1 TB of data from ATT Fiber. We aren't the only neighborhood like that either...I'd estimate probably 15,000 people in Toledo can ONLY get internet service from Buckeye...there are 10 of us in our neighborhood who have a standing email sent to the FTC and FCC every month about it, as well as our state representative.

We may be. I've got a buddy who probably lives less than 1,000 yards from me as the crow flies but we're in different neighborhoods. He says CinBell is availble to them an it's not for me. Not that I want CinBell; I think they're one of the worst companies to deal with but I was just pointing out how it creates a lack of any competition currently.

RE: Cutting the cord/saving money
So I was getting more and more lag on my YouTube TV, bought 2 more NetGear Powerline adapters to basically hardwire wire my TV to the modem using the electric outlet.

No more lag. They cost a little over $100 for 2, but small investment to get heavy internet consumption devices off the WiFi.

Rath, T-Mobile home internet is still working good? It is available to me now and it's cheaper and faster than my current spectrum service.

RE: Cutting the cord/saving money
Hulu just upped their Hulu Live rate from $55 to $65. I see where this is going.

Yep, I've had Hulu Live since it was $34.99...I'm convince a big reason for their increases since were Disney buying out NBCUniversal which allows NBCUniversal the ability to charge for their channels on the service now. It's all just going to end up being like $80/month by the end of it with no new things being added, because they know they've got all of us by the balls anyways. At least Hulu gives us a year with only one price increase.

Oh well, the $105.99 for internet and $64.99 for Hulu Live is still less than the $224.99 I would be paying if I wanted all of the channels with Buckeye...thank god for un-suable monopolies.

It is.

I have one or two bars on my cell in my house on a good day (we are pretty far outside of the coverage map) but the WiFi//fire stick combo has been really good regardless.

Has one day with a hiccup last week when we had a snow squall with 50 mph winds but that cleared up in a half hour or so.
