New Mexico State postpones fall football season to spring because of COVID player health & safety concerns as well as 14-day quarantine requirement when traveling back into state, sources told @Stadium. Of 130 FBS programs, 54 will not play in fall, while 76 plan to play in fall

They were probably having fits filling their schedule.

BYU's gotta cancel soon. They only have 3 games.

BYU is still actively trying to pick up games. I wouldn’t be surprised if they add Liberty and pick up all of NMSU’s scheduled opponents.

Word is that BYU will announce two more games today, one at a P5 opponent. My guess is an ACC school that lost their one game and Army. Hoping for at least a couple more AAC games. I will be surprised if BYU and Liberty do not play.

There are also rumors that BYU is discussing a fall home game against one of the in-state FCS schools - SUU or Weber State.

Looks like we will be losing our home game versus SFA

RE: New Mexico State officially out due in part to state quarantine rules
I'm curious why the FCS schools that haven't cancelled/postponed are still filling their schedules with the playoffs no longer happening in the fall. Have they been assured that fall results will be considered if there's spring playoffs? Or are they conceding the loss of the playoffs entirely/not caring if they happen and trying to get some buy games out of it?

Yeah, I think BYU pulls it off (assuming of course any teams are playing). Might only end up being 8 or 9 games, but it's do-able

With NMSU cancelling, UTEP is down to 8 conference games and the @Texas game. BYU would be a welcome addition.

Well, those rumors are dead. The Big Sky is not allowing non-conference games this fall.

But UTEP home games might be the only option available for the late Saturday television slots when BYU is not playing. Last two standing west of the central time zone.

They'll just convince the lower-tier P5 schools to do Midnight Madness games.

Didn’t think about that. BYU and UTEP are the only Western teams still playing (for now).

They don’t like us. We don’t like them. But desperate times call for desperate measures and it’s a game I’d go out of my way to watch.

I think UTEP may pull a ODU soon. Not worth the risk to travel out of their region.

The UTEP AD announced today that he is working to replace the 3 cancelled games for a full 12 game schedule. He also said that the date of the @ Texas game was moved from 9/19 to 9/12. Also said Sun Bowl capacity will be 25% or about 12,500 for this season.

Not to say that you are wrong because you could be right but yesterday the NMSU AD went on the radio and said he was trying to fill the schedule and that he would have no problem getting a 10 game schedule. Again I am not comparing the two schools or saying you are wrong I just think this thing is so fluid and I personally think too many things can happen that derail a season. Especially with El Paso being a hot spot. But for you as a fan I hope they get to play.

Planning to play, covid testing, covid protocols, just doing the best they can do but yes, it could all blow up tomorrow. Hopefully some games can safely be played. I will definitely miss our rivalry game with the Aggies.
