Well David, then sports will be cancelled forever then. There still isn’t a vaccine for SARS which is part of the COVID. That has been about 10 plus years ago.

I can certainly understand the position of wanting to mitigate risk in the upcoming months by pushing things off to next season, with the hope that the vaccines currently in the pipeline will be effective. Certainly some of the initial lab results have been encouraging.
But, on the other hand, if the vaccine proves to be more elusive and less effective than necessary to establish herd immunity (less than 50% from what I have read), then we will indeed need to learn to live with this. One simply cannot lock down the population in varying degrees year after year. If conditions remain unchanged by this time next year, the social unrest and fragmentation we are seeing now across the Country will seem like the "good old days" IMHO.

19 Year Old Athlete Died
Same story from SI
These are all anecdotal stories. Show me the meta-analysis.
Remember, the number of people in the USA under 23 who have died from CV is probably less than 100. That's out of 160,000.

SARS may be terrible, but it didn't result in a global pandemic. Given the number of infections and deaths worldwide and the impacts on economies, there's more incentive to develop a Covid vaccine. Whether that's possible remains to be seen, but developers are cautiously optimistic. As a minimum, we should all hope for a vaccine that offers the same protection as a flu vaccine -- something that at least reduces the likelihood of transmission, infection, and the severity of illness and its long-term consequences. As always, half a loaf is better than none.
