ACC 'absolutely' intends to play 2020 college football season

Quote:A murky day for college football got a bit brighter for those who hope to see the sport on the field in 2020 as an ACC official told CBS Sports on Monday said the conference "absolutely" intends on playing this fall. The comment from a high-ranking source within the league came after an ACC conference call with athletic directors and a similar call involving university presidents.

"We are trying to move forward [with playing] absolutely," the ACC official said.

Quote:"[Canceling football in the next couple of days] could happen for some leagues," the ACC official said. "I'm not sure it's going to happen in the Atlantic Coast Conference."

“We’re trying ...”
“Could happen ...”
“I’m not sure ...”

SOUNDS GOOD

The big concern that seems to be driving the sudden panic is concern that COVID can cause some serious heart problems. Apparently a few Indiana players have developed this issue. However, and I hate to agree with Nick Saban, but he is correct in pointing out that the players may be safer within a structured football program than if allowed to participate in normal campus life or normal life back in their home communities.

Syracuse will begin twice a week testing of players and team personnel beginning in early September. Opponents are being tested regularly, hopefully as frequently as Syracuse is doing. Further, as long as they are competing, players have a strong incentive to avoid high risk social situations.

Honest question if the ACC plays a season as intended will Syracuse be able to participate with Cuomo's travel restrictions?

MLB and NFL teams have been exempted. I assume that Syracuse is counting on a similar exemption.

As evidence of the flexibility that New York State has been willing to show, the "Buffalo" Blue Jays are playing their home opener tonight.
