I don't see how they stay on the sidelines while the ACC and SEC are playing. It's a huge loss for recruiting and also for income. This could be the opening the ACC has been looking for as a conference.

RE: COVID-19
Two straight all time high case counts in the country is not good news. My hope is that people will start wearing masks and social distancing so that we can actually play. It's getting really bad y'all. I'd love for the Hawks to be able to play but we will see. If people begin to wise up, this can possibly change for the better, but it will take everyone to be on the same page or at least most people.

This can be controlled to a degree and degrees matter here. If you think of this as a tick or a flea that can get you that has a disease, just consider that the person next to you has a tick or a flea that can jump to you. If you wear a mask or especially if the person next to you doesn't have a mask, don't get within 6 to 8 feet for more than a second or 2. That way, you won't be infected enough and the virus population will stay low. It's that simple and not up for debate at this point. We all know that this strategy works throughout the world.

Thanks Bill. Glad you have determined when something isn't up for debate any longer. Hiding from a virus will never work, because you eventually come out of hiding and it's still there. This was all so predictable because the strategy was stupid from the start.

Wait, did I just debate what is no longer debateable? 04-cheers

RE: COVID-19
As viruses mutate, “natural selection” makes newer strains less deadly, but more easily spread. After all, it’s not in the virus’s best interest to kill its hosts at a high rate.

The numbers seem to jive with that.

There is certainly some of that going on, but that, coupled with a high percentage of the new positive tests being the younger healthier portion of the population most who barely show any symptoms at all is what's driving the death rate down. But the fact that it's not as lethal is great news and supports even more not going backwards into a lock down.

So, less scary scary or nah?

In other sports related covid news. You know what I’m sick of seeing? I’m sick of seeing the players all playing and standing on sidelines of multiple sports (pro and college) not being forced to wear mask to meet an agenda while coaches are. In some leagues coaches are literally being fined tens of thousands of dollars for just pulling their masks down to actually coach a game. Never mind the fact players aren’t wearing them at all while they touch, yell at, and sweat all over each other.

The virtue signaling and selective adherence to any sort of science is nauseating. Either it’s safe to play sports and carry on with American life or it’s not.

And spit in the face of opposing players in some cases.

The idea that the ROW has it all figured out while the dumb Americans ignore science is being tested right now. Belgium, UK, Spain, Italy, Germany, etc are each experiencing a second wave more significant than the first.

Agree. No one has it figured out unfortunately. The thing just has to take it's course until we have a vaccine and effective treatment.

Just imagine though... homemade cloths that are coincidentally, universally able to slow the spread of a virus that can develop its own scientific mutation to survive. Incredible really, how far cloth design has come in the past year. It’s like cheap Kevlar!

RE: COVID-19
It was mentioned in the Men's Basketball Info thread today that no fans outside of family would be in attendance at home games. I'm assuming this is a protective measure put in place due to the increase in cases nationally.

My question for anyone with any knowledge or opinions even on the subject is, how does our athletic dept adapt to this. The long term ramifications of playing sports without fans in attendance is pretty obvious, especially for a school like UNCW that doesn't even have a decent deal to broadcast sports games locally in Wilmington. What is their answer to this basketball season, especially as they make decisions to essentially do away with fan income at home games? I know it's not a load of cash, but we already have one of the smallest budgets in a small budget league... this could be disastrous for the future.
