This league may never recover
Talking about the MAC football, last 2 years I believe the league has been down as far as overall quality of athletes. Now with the advent of Covid, the cancellation of all MAC games, the furtherence of AAC, CUSA and Sunbelt playing ball this year, competing with these leagues for talent maybe more of a challenge now. I wonder how many players will be leaving the MAC to play elsewhere if they are able to at this point.
Then again, if the teams that are playing ball, and covid is non existence, did the MAC error on the side of caution ? I think the MAC by cancelling first would hope that others would do the same besides the Big 10 and PAC12. Those leagues probably will not suffer the economic part of the games like the MAC could.
I wonder if UT should start thinking of forming a new stronger league or try to join another conference; good luck on that. By playing in the spring, I think that is a big IF, to say the least ! On top of everything, how many athletes being recruited by MAC schools will now look elsewhere ?
Food for thought.

I don't understand why the MAC thought they should be the first conference to cancel.

Unfortunate that the saliva based $20 Covid tests were not available. Probably was one of the big reasons for their decision. Promedica should have helped with testing costs at least for football..

UTMC has the biggest in house testing lab in Toledo.
Too bad the quick saliva tests are only about 50% accurate. They still have to be sent to a lab. Still waiting on a completely in home test.

The MAC will never fully disappear as far as the athletics. There are too many three star kids and late bloomers to all end up P5 or other G5's. I could see the league losing its FBS1-A ranking to realignment and lack of tv money, but it will always exist IMO. The real move is probably to jump ship and find something more secure. The 2003 MAC will never be back as we once had it. Basketball is in decent shape, as it's a top 13 RPI league compared to years near 20th.

I think a lot will depend on how the fall months play out, easily for ACC, B12 and SEC to say today they are going to play, but let's see if season actually starts or how long will it last, would a 3-4 game season in those conferences really been seen as better than MAC and Big10 we decided to cancel. We will not know until end of this year on how it all went and whether decision by MAC was a mistake and would hurt the league going forward.
