We ain't going back to the CAA/FCS. We've got too many home games vs Virginia Tech for that to happen.

I wonder if we were signaled that it's coming and got out in front for PR reasons. A lot of people are genuinely afraid. This could really play well on the recruiting trail. Nothing like a disaster to spin positive PR out of? That sounds calculated and cold but it's realty.

Maybe. But that could backfire too. I like the approach of looking like your ready to do anything to play. That we are that tough and committed and ready to win. Then when CUSA cancels, just blame it on TU WM and say “well, we wanted to play”. I wonder if the conference actually is going to play and forced Woods hand to cancel independently. If the whole G5 plays successfully except the MAC, UConn and ODU... that will be embarrassing.

That's true too. Wonder how many SWOT analysis' they did on the white board before making the decision?

Seems like if MLB can't do it safely, how could CFB?

And MLB has tinkered on the edge of a disaster with postponed games almost every day.

The biggest difference is that you can sort kinda maybe keep 30 guys in the bubble, but a football team has 100. And when 1 of the 100 get it, all of a sudden 30 have it. Additionally, these are adults that have resources available to them. 18 year old poor college kids dont have those resources.

And professionals get paid to play

Nobody's going to look bad by not conducting fall sports in the middle of a pandemic. Not the Ivy, not the A10, not the Big 10, not the Pac 12, not UConn and not ODU. Some of the posters on the CUSA board are getting pearl-clutchy about it but I'm sure their administrators are struggling with the same issues. If ODU thinks it's the right thing to do by the people that depend on it, then that's what they should do (and I'd say that even if they were playing; though I'd still be skeptical about the prudence of playing, I'd have more faith in our decision-makers than other schools' -- and certainly more than fans).

CUSA is not planning on playing, their announcement will come soon (as will other conferences). This isn't a rogue decision, ODU is just the first in the conference...more will be following shortly GUARANTEED. Also, FB will not be going down to FCS...period. Yes, finances are not good now, but that's pretty much the story for all G5 schools at the moment.

If there are posters saying this makes schools look bad, how nuts are the posters?

BTW, I have no idea why we announced our cancellation. Its likely bc C-USA were dragging their feet and we had to get our **** in order (season starting in just a few weeks).

If it was just for show, sobeit. I like to think its better to cancel early when everyone knows there is not going to be a football season this year. What does waiting until the last second accomplish? This **** aint going away in 2 weeks.

If you think I'm crazy or don't know what I'm talking about, look at entry number 1 on what if, I hope I'm wrong. Colonial makes all the sense in the world. I don't want it.

ok, so we are cancelled from playing. Will the teams still be able to work out? As long as it is within guidelines?

Detroit Free Press is reporting that the Big 10 voted 12-2 to not play this fall, with Iowa and Nebraska dissenting, and will announce this tomorrow. I'm guessing the PAC-12 is soon to follow.

As of now yes. However, NCAA and university compliance departments will have to come up with what athletic eligibility and workout out guidelines will look like moving forward.

Upwards of 575,000 people died in the US from H1N1 swine flu in the US. and those deaths weren’t inflated like COVID’s have been.

From CDC web site

Additionally, CDC estimated that 151,700-575,400 people worldwide died from (H1N1)pdm09 virus infection during the first year the virus circulated.** Globally, 80 percent of (H1N1)pdm09 virus-related deaths were estimated to have occurred in people younger than 65 years of age
Plus younger people died disproportionate to older.

That number was worldwide deaths for Swine Flu, not just US.

But, Swine flu was far more deadly for younger folks than COVID.

There are reports that the B1G won’t play. I expect the Pac 12, ACC and the Big 12 to follow suit.

There will not be any college football this fall.
