Big Ten commissioner prefers Spring football
Well, looks like the Big 10 will be the P5 conference left out of the CFP

Question: Will the Pac-12 be far behind if the Big-10 goes to spring football?

Wouldn't be surprised if most conferences follow.

Pushing it back to spring just seems like the best solution.

I know all are trying as hard as they can to save this season, but my biggest concern with the Spring move is the turnaround time to the next Fall season. I've seen others have that concern as well.

I think you could probably push back the start of the fall 2021 season to address that concern. You might run into some weather issues in some parts of the country though.

In southern states at least you could start the spring season in April and the following fall season in October. Why wouldn’t that work?

Big 10 is the leader in doing most things right. Dominos will start to fall over the next ten or so days.

They'd probably need to cut down the length of a fall 2021 season as well if a Spring season happens. Even if the argument is that they are young, that's still a decent amount of wear and tear in one calendar year.

People claiming they care for the wellness of the kids are going to have them play two full seasons within a calendar year and even with a pushback dates of 2021 season will still be short turnaround and wear and tear on the body.

The thoughts about NFL bound players is they would not most likely play in the spring then have to play in the fall NFL. Their bodies could not perform that task safely.

^ Yeah I also think they would have to skip the Spring season and focus on getting ready for the draft.

RE: Big Ten commissioner prefers Spring football
The NCAA is a joke in so many ways. This situation magnifies yet another.
They are completely absent from leading the conferences to a unified decision. It's ridiculous that one conference has already dropped Fall fb (MAC), another is strongly considering it, others are conference-only for the Fall, and yet others are full Fall football.
They all need to get on the same page and fast. Some players are practicing now for the Fall and injuries are occurring. Some seniors and NFL guys are trying to decide whether to show back up on campus. AD's are tying to manage budgets.
What a mess.

If they go to Spring football, it will need to be a shortened conference-only type schedule, to allow players to recover and try to get back to a normal winter schedule.

Conferences in no way are controlled by the NCAA on whether to play or not. They can only make a recommendation. The only thing the NCAA controls is the actual National Championship Title "name". That's it.

I realize that. And that is the problem.
In all other sports, you better believe that the NCAA as a group would be calling the shots. But they've allowed football to be run like some 1940's syndicate. They have offered no suggestions, and shown no leadership in trying to facilitate discussions. And, again, don't give me the tired old line about the NCAA being nothing more than the universities themselves. That's bunk. It's a large bureaucracy of lawyers paid a lot of money.
But finally, it appears that some attempt at cohesion is forming with meetings this weekend and in the coming days.

RE: Big Ten commissioner prefers Spring football
Funny ... I don't watch Pac 12 or Big 10 sports. I won't watch them no matter what time of the year they play. I just don't give a hoot about either league. Pay attention commissioner ... It's baseball in the spring and summer, football in the fall and winter and basketball in the winter and spring. Either play within these timelines or don't play at all. And if you think those players are gonna wanna play football outdoors in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, etc., etc., IN DECEMBER, JANUARY OR FEBRUARY ...... YOUR NUTS !!!
