RE: MAC football season cancelled.
If the P5 schools were still playing their full non-conference schedules, we’d be playing football this fall.

I wouldn't be shocked if the p5 schools ended up doing this too.

I expect the P5s to postpone until spring too. Pro sports have the money to pull this off (maybe?). The pro athletes have the financial incentive too. College athletes only have their scholarship and they will get that either way. Unless they open up their campuses and have regular classes I just don’t see how they can play contact sports. If they do the lawyers will end up having more money than most governments.

The pro teams can survive off the tv deals with no fans in the stands, while the colleges and college towns rely on those games being packed.

What will be really interesting is if the season does happen in the spring, will it go back to the same schedule that was supposed to happen this year? Meaning we'll end up getting our pay days? Probably a long way off from answering that question.

P5 AD's are dogging the MAC for this decision. They clearly want/need to play. Will be a interesting few weeks to see what transpires.

If they play in the spring it's highly likely that the top NFL prospects sit out the season to train for the draft. That could make things much more interesting if those games happen.

Why do we think the pandemic will be any different in the spring? LET THEM PLAY.

There could be a vaccine by then.

RE: MAC football season cancelled.
Let’s face it, the big boys (P5) want to start a season but there’s no way they’ll finish it. They’ll be lucky to get a month in before pulling the plug. Let’s say it’s Thursday night before Bama plays Ole Miss and the starting QB and backup tests positive, they share a meeting room with the other QBs, one lives with the starting RB and onward the dominoes fall as far as quarantining goes. This isn’t baseball where they squeeze a doubleheader in on Monday, that week is gone as is the following week.

Those ADs should be dogging themselves, they forced the hand of the MAC when they mandated their teams opt of of the non-conference money games the MAC schools rely on to fund their programs.

I think the more likely scenario is multiple players from two teams test positive after a game. I doubt they'll be doing regular mandated tests for the whole team they'll only be testing guys if they show symptoms. Plus the current lead time on getting results back several days. So, even if they are regularly testing the whole team, they'd have to administer it early in the week to get the results by game day. What good would that do? They could get it in class during the week.

Also it that will mean a player feeling light symptoms before a game would have to report it, get tested, and likely sit out the game while they await the results. So you'll have kids that get a runny nose on Friday but wait until Sunday to speak up so they can play in the game. Heck there will probably be some coaches that encourage stars to do just that.

Now maybe the NCAA and the power conferences have enough pull to get the rapid tests and have them performed on the whole team on game day. I recently asked my son's Dr where we could get a rapid test and she said she doesn't know of any place they're available to the public not even to Drs. Also, as we saw with Mike Dewine's false positive this week, this test is prone to false positives.

P5 Will finish the season and the MAC will look weak as the decision is to cancel.
Northern Illinois is weaker then the decision not to play ..

I believe there will not be Spring football just a play on words not to look so weak...

I received a rapid test in Ohio, they were available to the general public and doctors as well. I got my results back in minutes.

I would have to think there must be pregame testing on Friday night or Saturday morning at the latest and not waiting until after a game to test on Monday. If I am a coach I’m not taking my team to play another team blindly and not knowing that everybody on the opposition was clean coming into the game. Also, I would assume that they’re doing temperature checks and even players or team staff will probably be policing their teammates if they see them showing symptoms that they aren’t admitting to because it could unravel the whole team and a whole season. Again, when you see teams like Rutgers having 3 dozen positive results, I just can’t see a full season occurring.

Interesting, how long ago was that? This was about a week ago the Dr told us that. She also told us that the active agent in tests is running short so they're cutting back on asymptomatic tests. But she did say that it changes daily.

I had a test a couple of weeks ago at a state sponsored public site on a Friday, and they told me I would receive the results in 72 hours. I got the results the next afternoon, just over 24 hours. Just one anecdote.

RE: MAC football season cancelled.
So how concerned is everyone about losing our top players to p5 schools now? If they're going to essentially sit out a year anyways, why not do it at a p5 school and get to play there next year. I saw an article that p5 schools are already trying to poach MAC stars.

Wouldn't that just be Kent's luck? We finally win a bowl game and have the program looking good. We have a QB and WR that look like legit NFL prospects. Then a pandemic scrubs the season and our talent pool.

I would hope our offensive stars are smart enough to realize that putting up big numbers in college football is very frequently a function of the system you play in. So you're still more likely to get recognized putting up gawdy numbers in a high powered Sean Lewis offense than playing for the 9th best big 10 school.
