We've talked about this before here, but football-wise I think there's more anti-OSU sentiment among UC fans than there is anti-UC sentiment among OSU fans. Obviously that is even more true now that we have CLF who seems to be universally loved by both fanbases. (Of course there's some condescension coming from that end too.)

Point being if we actually end up playing in the fall this year, I suspect a large number of OSU fans will be like Carpenter and adopt UC as the team they are rooting for in CFB.

Having lived all over the state, including Columbus: It’s the Cincinnati area OSU fans that rub UC fan the wrong way. A lot of them are like local U.K. fans, they enjoy putting UC down than actually watching the teams they supposedly root for.

My wife is an OSU grad from NEO as is all of her family. They are all very respectful of UC and all the MAC teams TBH. That’s how most OSU fans outside Greater Cincinnati roll.

OSU fans think we’re a plucky little school with heart. Most of the ones I know like us. It’s not like we’re their competition.

They look at us a lot better since we hired Fickel, I can tell you that.

Disagree. I live in Columbus. Plenty of a-hole OSU fans here too. I will say that the OSU alumni aren't usually bad. It's the t-shirt fans that are the bad fans the majority of the time

I agree the t-shirt tOSU fans are the worst, regardless of location. Due to proximity, the t-shirts here in the 513 take it to another level IMHO when it comes to UC.

Speaking of t-shirt fans, I used to work with a guy in Columbus who would play the Ohio fight song at his desk all day long on Fridays during the CFB season. He went to BGSU. I won a few pops off him back in 2002 when he gave me 38 points in the UC-OSU game at PBS. He was douchebag fan personified, thought OSU was Harvard in the Classroom and a complete beast on the field. They never lost a game in his opinion unless it was due to the referees, weather conditions, etc.

OSU is like any other blue blood when it comes to fans. Fans of schools like that are always going to puff their chests out and be cocky. But I married into an OSU family and have many friends who are OSU fans up here who had a lot of respect for UC even before Fickell was hired. And Fickell is absolutely revered among OSU fans, so there is even more respect now. Seems like a lot of OSU fans are adopting UC as their team this year, and I'm all for that. I've even seen some say they are going to buy some gear. We should be happy about that, even if we're #2 for those fans. It's still eyeballs on TV and money in the bank with merchandise.

Good stuff from Dan and CLF in that scrimmage video. This team seems primed to thrive so it's killing me that this season is taking so many twists. All we can do is make the best of it I guess.

Bolded, just another reason we need this season to happen.

Our daughter married into an OSU family, though she and her husband are both UC graduates. The in-laws are very cordial and respectful of UC really. But most other Buckeyes I know who speak positively of UC generally do so with some degree of condescension--often unintended I think. Their worldview just has the B10 and "everyone else" and they don't seem to distinguish the MAC from the American in any way. When UC reaches the ACC or B12, some of that should diminish.

Sadly for UC fans, head to head in football and basketball recently has pretty much been a disaster.

On the whole though, Fickell's work has been outstanding. I'm particularly impressed with how he's grown in his encounters with the media too. He's very confident now with proven success; he is respectful of reporters' questions but also has some fun with the beat writers he knows; he's always positive, smiles and in the process continues to endear himself to our fans week by week.

He and Chad seem to have a good relationship.

This is not he official pre-season top 25 list, but I like it. Both SMU and Navy belong on this list. Temple and Houston will be in the top 25 before the season ends. Tulane and Tulsa are better than last year. Houston redshirted 35 players last last year, so they will be better. The AAC is in a big "up cycle" this year. Even Austen Peay is a good team. They went three deep in the FCS championship last year and have a very good QB returning. The team bubble at Camp Higher Ground is working well but keeping Bearcat student-athletes off the COVID list the season is important. Double nickel Hudson and Jerome Ford are looking good.

Another update from camp

Questions remain as UC Bearcats have one more week of camp before returning to campus

2 point of interest:
1. Not surprising but there have been positive COVID tests within the program. No details but also no indication anything was serious.
2. Sounds like we should keep a close eye on Dalrone Donaldson. I've kept a very casual eye on him since HS but I didn't even know he joined the program at UC.

If we can play this season, it could be absolutely huge for us. More fans, more recruits watching, more national attention, etc...

With 2 of the Power conferences already out, it will also catapult out entire conference, which should help us even more as one of the expected conference leaders. If we can have a great season, this could accelerate our identity in the State of Ohio and nationally to levels we have not yet seen. Great opportunity let’s hope we can play (and finish) and that we have a great season.

Hate to say it, but in the event that we go undefeated and there are only 3 P5 teams with either 0 or 1 losses, it would be really nice to have the Buckeye faithful throw their weight behind a surprise playoff push.

I haven’t looked, but even being in the discussion would be huge for National exposure. I haven’t looked, but I would also think there will be some major bowls that struggle to get teams considering the B1G and P12 are out of consideration.

This got me thinking...saying that a team needs to stay healthy and avoid the injury bug has taken on a whole different meaning this season. I realize some things can still happen despite the efforts, but I really believe Coach, the staff, and the players are all in lock step on COVID procedures and individual/team accountability. Camp Higher Ground really is a great way to instill this in the team before they return to campus.

It's gonna be tough, but we are uniquely set up at all positions to withstand an unexpected positive test. Even throwing Evan Prater in doesn't sound that bad.
