Preseason bias has been set. Luckily to get to the access bowl we'll UCF and Cincy (both ranked and above Boise). Our major issue is if UCF and Cincy crap out in conference and Boise goes undefeated (and we don't).

24. Virginia Tech - coach votes on the poll
25. Iowa State - coach votes on the poll

The same every year. They raise P5 teams from the final poll of the prior year, and drop G5 teams. They will typically keep 1-2 G5 teams in the 20's, just to toss us a bone.
Coaches poll is a bit of a joke anyway, as they have some anonymous GA fill out the form. AP should be the more accurate, but they will do the same thing.

I've crunched the numbers. Here is the average change in position from the final poll (AP) prior year to the preseason poll current year, from 2014-19, by conference:
B12 +4.8 spots
SEC +2.9
PAC +2.9
ACC +1.8
B10 +1.4
Independents (ND, BYU) +0.6
AAC -2.8
CUSA -3.2
Sun -3.5
MWC -5.8
MAC -6.0

Notice anything?

There should be a college football poll that includes every g5 coach and a few select p5 coaches. This is the on that should determines the 12 team playoff.

Or how about a poll of all the Head coaches not in the AmWay poll.

They purposefully start G5 schools so far back they can possibly move up enough to get into the playoff.
