That's a huge get for BYU. They'll also get a little taste of what the AAC west is like with Houston & Navy on their schedule.

I say add UCF, Memphis and SMU and really get a filling of the AAC schedule.

I'd be surprised if UCF & BYU don't have something tentatively drawn up and just waiting for confirmation from UNC that they're buying out that game.

UCF is at the top of the opponents I'd like to see on the schedule this year. Without P5s, teams should just pursue the best opponents they can at this point. I'd also love to see Memphis, Cincinnati & SMU added. If location is an issue for anyone, there's a brand new empty stadium (with air conditioning) in Vegas that would be fun to break in.

I did a lot of the murals in that stadium. One is 73 ft tall. When you see the Thunderbirds Mural, I did the artwork. Also the Raiders program covers montage going back to the sixties alongside the escalators was mine. Vegas Vic, etc. There are several other murals. One will be in the Area 51 bar.

Sounds like you and your fans would really enjoy AAC membership. If only there was an opening available...

I would love for BYU to be in the AAC but I go to Utah every winter from Florida and it isn't exactly next door. It's a long ways away. I understand it's not that big of a deal for football, but all of the Olympic sports traveling from the bottom of the East Coast to Utah would be troublesome. And for anyone saying add BYU as a football only, our commissioner already said that's not happening

No he didn't. He pointed out specifically when talking about BYU that travel is not an issue for a football only add.

Good add for Navy, assuming there is a season.

Good interview thanks. Sounds like Aresco is really pushing BYU to conference members.

They've definitely had that conversation, can't tell if it's just some friendly ribbing or something that's in the works. My guess is the first.

Aresco wants high profile ooc wins that he can sell to the committee. Without P5s, there are only so many options. Unfortunately Boise is booked. BYU is one of the few teams left that can sorta offer those opportunities. Doesn't seem like Memphis is interested as they already announced their schedule, but UC and/or UCF may be interested as both have space on their schedules.

I'm surprised Memphis doesn't want to get someone to fill the Purdue game they lost.

Sounds like the BYU hosts want it too. It was cool when they asked Aresco if He wouldn't mind being their Commish. haha

Well, if the MAC pulls out the rug from underneath the entire season tomorrow, maybe you (Navy) could get your game scheduled at Notre Dame after all? Unless WMU suits up for a 1-game season at ND to collect our million bucks.

Pretty dicey situation in the MAC now with their presidents meeting tomorrow, per sources. Potential play is to punt on the fall season with NIU and a couple of other programs in a bad financial spot. The lack of guarantee $$ games makes paying for testing protocols difficult.

Source: A spring football season is absolutely being considered by the MAC, whose presidents will vote on the plan Saturday. Last FBS conference without a plan yet.

Good read overall on how things developed
https://www.capitalgazette.com/sports/na...story.html

"I got off the phone with Jack Swarbrick and 10 minutes later I was on the phone with Tom Holmoe,” Gladchuk said. “We knew BYU was available, so I grabbed that game immediately.”

Note:

No fans will be in NMCMS Monday night for the game. Capital is reporting that USNA petitioned the state to allow the Brigade of Midshipmen - who jave not been allowed off the Yard since returning - to attend but that was denied.

cbssports controls navy's home games

there was clear intervention in scheduling this by espn...

When the deal between AAC and CBSSN was made, a year before the AAC primary media rights deal, there was a provision for one Navy NMCMS home game (but not Air Force) to be held out as part of the primary rights deal. That's in addition to the even-yeared Notre at Navy games that are part of the AAC primary rights deal.

Expectation was that would be the sexiest Navy home game in-conference. Good job by ESPN to jump on this one.

The word in Navy circles is that BYU @ Navy replaced ND at Navy as AAC content for the ESPN AAC rights deal. Disney can still choose one of Navy's home AAC games this year as part of the ESPN AAC media package. The remainder will be on CBSSN as the "Navy tier" of AAC rights.
