UConn shuts it down for 2020
UConn has announced they have canceled their football season for 2020, the first FBS team to do so. Although some would argue that they are barely FBS.

We’ll see if this has a domino effect in FBS.

I could see Liberty, UMass, and NMSU closing down. No conference is going to close it down because of UConn, though.

UConn had already lost 6 games and I doubt many teams were calling them to fill a vacancy. It's more about money than health concerns for them.

Exactly.

There was no possible way UConn was going to be able to fill in their open slots in time.

NMSU, Liberty, and UMass though seem to have retained most of their schedules though, unless the MAC or MWC announce conference-only schedules.

I wonder if this is the last gasp for UConn football.

They did join the Big East in all other sports this year, if nothing else it could be they fall to FCS and continue with their peer schools.

Seems like they've been hanging onto FBS by a thread.

Wouldn't be shocked if they dropped to FCS or dropped football altogether.

CAA football only is probably their best bet to keep football. They'd have Delaware, Northeastern (Boston), Hofstra (Hempstead, NY), and Drexel (Philadelphia) nearby. If they can't pull that off, just shut the whole thing down and put all your eggs in the WBB basket.

They should've tried a Notre Dame deal. Join another G5 conference and then guarantee 5 Nonconference basketball games with that conference.

Is there any public flagship school in the state without football and football at the D1 level? Some of the smaller population states are FCS but they still have football and DI football even.

NMSU has already had three games canceled UCLA, Florida and a home game against Texas Southern.

Tarleton and Dixie State joined the WAC this year and are FCS Independents. Both of those schools have lost games due to Covid. Would the consider playing each other to fix the schedule.

From NMSUs perspective, thry could play 2 more home games

Last year I resorted to attending a few local high school games here in Anchorage to get my fix of live football. Definitely is not the same as cheering for your alma mater but it helped. No High school football will be played in Alaska this fall. Going to be a loooongggg winter if there are no college or NFL games to watch.

Northeastern and hofstra both droped football a few years ago and Drexel has not had football
