RE: Best local paper?
Yeah, not the Flyer. I pick it up when I see it, but it's not the kind of local accountability I'm looking for. Actually quite the opposite. All they do is rant on Nashville while giving local leaders a pass.

For sports, I have lots of resources online already. Just looking for an occasional boost of content.

Mostly though, it's the local leadership issues. I've been disappointed in some of what Harris, Strickland, SCS, SCHD, and even Rudd have done over the past few months, and how things are reported by the tv stations. (Not necessarily surprised, but disappointed nonetheless.) Wanting to read to see if there is any "print" journalist out there still trying to do a good job. Probably won't keep the subscript much longer than a month, because I'm pretty sure I know the answer already.

I honestly don't know there is anything that resembles a new paper (online or not). Most everything today is more opinion pieces than actual news. Every thing today seems to be bias and really cannot be trusted. You almost have to subscribe to everything just to try to put together the truth.

Sounds like I'm going to be disappointed in civics journalistic writing either way.

So which is the stronger Tigers tandem:
Giannotto, Munz, Barnes
Calkins, Jonah, new gender-neutral bb writer

Liberal stink rag.

The only thing in the Flyer that’s worth a damn is the Jack Pirtle 2 for 1 chiggen dinner box coupon.

Y'all know I'm librul, so you all can just stuff it. I'll keep on reading The Flyer. And yeah, I know The Flyer could be a bit more hardhitting at our local corrupt politicians, but then that's why I protest.

Go Tigers!

Yep, once upon a time you could trust that the reporter was looking for the facts, nothing but the facts. They had to have corroboration and get it past an editor to get it in print. There were checks and balances, sure some papers had biases, but it was still mostly reporting what had happened, except the editorial page. Not any more, now its just people vomiting all over the internet, and even worse, people reading and believing it outrageous crap as fact.

RE: Best local paper?
Here's one example of the frustration with local leaders going unchecked right now. Driving down Riverside Drive is one of the more enjoyable, scenic parts of a downtown drive. Riverside Drive is still closed on weekends. (And it just this week opened back up during weekdays.) Why?

First knee-jerk explanation is that the health dept gestapo doesn't want people congregating at Tom Lee Park. Evidently, all of our local journalists accept that answer. But it's silly. If that is the reason, then simply keep the parking closed at Tom Lee. But open the daggum street.

Secondly, why not congregate at Tom Lee? Outdoors and sunshine are supposed to be good medicine and low risk for the virus. We all have to accept personal responsibility for social distancing and mask wearing all over the county. Send Jennifer Biggs and the gestapo out to patrol the park if you feel people there are out of line. But open the daggum street.

It is amazing that no one is challenging this decision to keep the street closed for so long. It is equally amazing how all the free-talking liberal media have so easily handed over their personal liberties to the government.

I haven't read a physical copy of a newspaper since 2010-ish...digital editions are where it's at these days.

I read both the CA and DM every day, just via my phone...I like DM a little better.

Local newspapers are the best sources of info for local HS sports and Tiger sports. Appreciative of The Daily Memphian for stepping in and filling the void left by the CA after it was purchased by Gannett and shifted its focus on merged regional news with Nashville & Knoxville.

I'm really pissed about this, as are others, including the Downtown Neighborhood Association. There is no way this can be legal, to close a public street, any more than they would be able to close the racetrack formerly known as Poplar. It's all to kowtow to the people in South Bluffs who don't like the traffic. That park belongs to all Memphians, black, brown, white, et cet. I think I'm going to start raising some hell about it. It's also against the ADA laws. It is a lot harder to reach the river banks if you have to walk for blocks rather park in the Tom Lee lot.
