This dude said IF they are racist at all LOL. Jesus, it's 2020 and folks are still delusional. Ole Miss had to be forced to get rid of the confederate flag. And it took them basically being black balled to do it. It took the national guard just to get black kids INTO Alabama while they were spat on and assaulted on a daily. Wasn't it Alabama where the students hung a noose not too long ago too? My statement stands.. I would go out of my way to make sure not a single one of them ever got a penny from me let alone actually put any of their gear on my body. But these young kids have gone years and years being fooled into believing that pwc's were better options than HBCU's. And again, the corona thing has shown exactly why I feel the way I do about it. Folks are more than willing to sacrifice a few of them just to have a season. Hopefully more come to their senses in the future and attend schools that actually give a damn about their well being instead of only how fast they can run and jump.

I never understood how they'd be willing to attend half the schools in the south. I'd go to Liberty before Ole Miss, Alabama, LSU or any of these other southern schools that were anti black. It literally turns my stomach to see black kids wear an Ole Miss or an Alabama jersey.

Boy oh boy, you should look up the history of Liberty and why it was created in the first place 07-coffee3

Since you’re a Liberty historian, let’s hear it.

Okay. Jerry Fallwell Sr. founded Liberty as a whites-only private school in direct opposition to the federal government's decision to desegregate schools of which Fallwell was an outspoken opponent. The school dropped its "whites-only" policy two years later when it was ruled in court that segregation institutions could not retain their tax-exempt status.

AlwaysSunny's assertion that black athletes should go to Liberty over "anti-black" southern schools is laughable considering Liberty was founded for the sole reason of being anti-black.

^This. My first comment about black athletes representing Liberty's brand being bizzare is related to their history. Also..even the things their current leadership says..to put it mildly...appear very insensitive and laughable.

Uh... HBCU's are FCS, which means very few (if any?) full rides. It's sometimes just a simple financial decision to turn down student loan debt and play each game in front of a few more NFL eyeballs in FBS vs FCS isn't it?

Most arguments against Liberty joining the Sun Belt (Diploma mill, private school, large conservative evangelical support, etc) all ultimately boil down to money. Personally, I don't believe they would mesh well with a conference of smaller public schools solely because they have more money than they know what to do with.

All the points you give may be the main reason but the fact they have so much money to spend is likely part of the equation as well at least for the SB. To be a peer there needs to be some common bond and that is one more item that would set them apart from the rest of the conference schools.

All this is silly. If anyone wants to find real issues with Universities not named LU just google it. All the other schools with recent issues aren’t mentioned because they are in a P conference and get a pass.

Look, we have been through this up teen hundred times. It's not that complicated. Presidents decide. University and college presidents are usually either career academics or career administrators. When they get together at conference meetings in most cases it 10 - 14 guys who are representing similar schools with similar day to day and similar goals. This also drives realignment because they are not going ar out on a limb for a school that doesn't act like the others in the group. Call it cultural fit. Liberty's problem is that theybdont sound or act academically or financially like any schools other than University of Phoenix or Devry. They certainly do not fit with 100% of FBS. It's not that they have money. List of schools do. It's that they use online tuition as an ATM machine to fund athletics as part of marketing an agenda. So that make whomever is there president any given time a hype man, not an academic and not a career college administrator. They could Carr less about research programs or the student-athletes. So when their representative shows up around college presidents that becomes kind of obvious. That's why they couldn't get in the CAA or SoCon in FCS and why nobody wants them in FBS.

Since we are living in an age of growing dissent over religion and the bible with many wanting the church gone, don't you think simply being a Christian school is part of it?

All the points you give may be the main reason but the fact they have so much money to spend is likely part of the equation as well at least for the SB. To be a peer there needs to be some common bond and that is one more item that would set them apart from the rest of the conference schools.

Ergo, money issue

Since we are living in an age of growing dissent over religion and the bible with many wanting the church gone, don't you think simply being a Christian school is part of it?
Naw...

Please stop perpetuating the myth that Liberty is a “Christian” School.

They are nothing of the sort. They are a politically conservative religious entity.

What they call themselves and what they actually stand for are miles apart. Don’t be deceived.
