Was about to say that...we had some behemoths before the last migration that probably aren't counting, as did other school boards.

Can either of you expound on this for us more-recent-to-join CSNbbs posters?

Every time you load the thread listing, a query goes back to the database for every post ever made on that forum. If that goes back years and years -- millions of posts -- it's a PUNISHING query to run on the database. Even though it's only interested in showing you the Cincinnati posts for example, it has to go as far back as necessary among ALL posts SITE WIDE until it gets to the first post on the Cincinnati board. Particularly before the last server upgrade when performance was at more of a premium this meant moving millions of posts into archival boards. This greatly improved loading speed with forum listings and making new posts. You can feel the lag creeping in sometimes when you make a new thread in The Spin Room or the Memphis board. It's something I'll need to eventually do again. This is something that Aurora -- custom board software I'm writing to replace what we use -- will address and fix permanently, at which time I can merge all the archival posts back in and the counts will be accurate again.

Thanks GTS. Glad you have the supra-left brain for this stuff. Not that the numbers matter to me but just impressive to know that the posts made historically far exceeds what is listed currently.

On another note, was MemphisTigers.org merged in at some point in time?

MemphisTigers.org came over with this board and the UAB board when C-USA Talk folded.

Was it Jax that ran the Voy board? That seems like a foggy distant past...well, it was, I suppose.

Rath, your memory is as sharp as ever. Jax was one who started that board.

Just doing a check of the activity around the CSNbbs team boards revealed the following "snapshot in time" with over 100,000 posts [number of threads]:

1,378,657 [9,305] - MemphisTigers.org [this is just for their sports forum alone]
388,631 [14,958] - Northern Illinois
362,061 [9,305] - Bearcat Banter
322,620 [6,245] - James Madison
291,461 [8,337] - Rice
281,319 [5,439] - Old Dominion
240,872 [12,190] - Western Michigan
179,124 [9,676] - Toledo
130,088 [6,381] - East Tennessee St
114,465 [24,120] - Arkansas-Little Rock
109,533 [6,615] - Eastern Michigan

Questions:

1) Notably absent are any P5's. Are we just a bunch of "frustrated housewives" with nothing better to do? LOL.

2) I assume some of this has to do with the number of years a particular team board has been active? The number of alternative team web page forum options?

3) What does this say [or not say] about University of Cincinnati fans?

4) What the heck is up with Memphis Tigers Nation LOL?

That may be the only forum that is used by Memphis fans. Which I think is a good thing. There are a lot of UC fans that use bearcatnews.com which has ~250,000 posts.

Does anyone still use/read bearcatnews.com? I used to read their stuff all of the time, but it seems that they stopped years ago.

BearcatNews is still active and people post fairly regularly. I requested an account a few years back and it took seemingly 6 months for the moderator to see and approve it.. something about all the account requests getting sent to a spam file that was never checked. Some decent information over there but with the number of people on Banter, this is going to naturally be more informative.

Bearcatnews- Brent and Keith before him are good guys. A lot of people left there because nobody would stay on topic. You would Have to weed through 30 of the back-and-forth arguments to actually find one message about the thread. And then they try to enforce keeping threads on topic and overtime people left. I still check things out over there off and on. Especially in season.

BearcatTalk- A couple of guys from bearcat news I think started their own thing over at bearcat talk. They advertised it in some posts, so I checked it out. During basketball season it was a great place. Then someone on bearcattalk was asking where they could get more football information Since bearcattalk didn’t have much. And someone responded Bearcatbanter. I came here and saw like a 40 page football recruiting thread - With all kinds of insight from BearcatMan. I was hooked.

If I'm not mistaken, it's how I found out that Huggins was fired. If it wasn't that, it was some other big news event that we caught via the emails...

Anybody remember the original e-mail based inception?

Absolutely...was an extremely active member of that mailing list going back to the Gooner days of the 1990s. It was my real connection to all things UC back when I was living on the East Coast.

Yup.

Zuke and those guys.
Many transitioned To go Bearcats.com. Then later Keith basically gave the name to UC And changed it to bearcatnews.
