Exclamation Positive from P5 Conference Only
I was just thinking about this, as 3 out of 4 P5 conferences have said they are playing conference only. Of course the Big 12 is paralyzed by indecision, and is planning on looking at 4-5 scenarios on Monday.

We've known for quite a while that the SOS in the ACC is just not on par with the rest of the conferences. Clemson's only saving grace has been that they play decent P5 teams in other conferences.

Could this be the year that the ACC champion's SOS is lower than the AAC's champion?

After all, the AAC strength of schedule in 2019 was higher than both the ACC and the PAC12.

Are you this dumb?

Notre Dame is ACC for this season. Even eligible to win the football ACC title.

The schedule whiners show their colors often, like in past seasons when several will state "You've GOT TO schedule SEC teams", as if it's only a matter of calling them up and telling them we're willing to play.

RIP UCONN football. I can't think of a sillier decision from an administration.

UConn football is an oxymoron. Always has been, always will be.

UConn paid 17 million to get their football in that "great" situation.

Say every team only plays teams in their conference and they play them all once.

That means every conference SOS would be the same and the teams with the best records would have the lowest SOSs

Notre Dame has an agreement with the ACC for other sports but maintained independence in football and was obligated only to play 5 ACC football games. The only reason for the change this year and possibly the next is because their schedule fell apart with most of the P5 going conference only. Unfortunately, I think that only allows 1 possible "non-conference" slot for them and if they did that, it would be Navy due to history.

I don't think Ike's statement was dumb had the Irish not been somewhat "forced" to join a conference to get a decent schedule this year.

Sagarin and the other algorithm services always say that their early season SOS bias disappears over time as all teams become "connected" through inter-conference play. Well, that sounds like it's out this year. So their bias will exist all year long in the algorithm.

Short answer - No, our champ will not be ranked higher than any P5 champ.

lol
I haven't even thought about them (for good reason).
They will struggle to come up with 6 games this year. I guess they can play a bunch of lower division games. But they probably don't even care.

That actually makes sense. The conference bias present in the first poll will dictate the final pecking order. Might as well go ahead and lock down the highest 4 ranked P5 champions (based on conference ranking in the initial poll).

RE: Positive from P5 Conference Only
I just read an article at ESPN saying that they're going to have to redo the way that bowls are handled... Because these teams are only playing themselves and can't load up on OOC cupcakes, there's a high likelihood that many of them won't get to .500.

It is a computer formula...So yes the Bias will be removed...

Now will the standard formula be valuable...Absolutely not.

If everyone plays conference only the SWAC will have the same conference strength as the SEC.

That's not how it works. At least Sagarin (and likely all of them) has an algorithm that includes preseason bias based upon recruiting, recent history, and other unknown factors. He openly admits the preseason bias. But then, as non-conf games are played, the teams become connected through opponents of opponents of opponents. The algorithm takes the results of these games and recalcs his rankings, slowly removing the preseason bias.

This year, it's clear that all teams will not be connected with so many going conf-only. So his only option is to leave-in preseason bias. There's no way he removes it entirely and has Western Michigan ranked as high as Alabama.
