I was reading about that. They’re going to have to relax the restrictions on being over .500 if there aren’t enough teams to fill the bowls. They can’t use cupcake out of conference games to pad their record this year.

RE: Positive from P5 Conference Only
There's a lot of talk around the possibility there will be no bowls. Conferences are expanding the season on the calendar to provide flexibility for the virus. For example, the SEC championship is now scheduled for Dec 19 - 2 weeks later than normal. Last year, the first bowls were played on Dec 20. And with fans likely not allowed to travel, the money won't be there.

Of course the contract is in breach. Some of the contracts have out clauses for situations where a conference disallows the game to be played. Others will declare force majeure.

However, some - likely the SEC - are increasing conference game (from 8 to 10), while eliminating non-conf. Overall tv inventory goes down, but quality improves.

Will be interesting to see. No matter whether ESPN pays less to SEC or not, one thing I am sure of. My ESPN rates for my tv package will not decrease.
