Won’t kickoff until 9/26 and champ game not until 12/19. Wow.

With that 12/19 champ game (you’ve got to think other P5s will follow) bowl season is pretty much gone. So G5s have no OOC paydays and no bowl payouts?

I suppose the bowl games will depend on when the G5’s start and finish the season.

There may be denials at this point but the separation has begun. The P5 leagues met daily for weeks. Anyone think all they talked about was the pandemic and the '20 season? I'll be surprised if it isn't made official before the 2021 season.

I’m not so sure about that. Some of these schools are going to realize how much worse a 2-8 record looks than 4-8/5-7. The G5 isn’t getting a huge slice of the pie S it is, and they offer several benefits to the P5 schools. Some more shuffling will eventually take place, but I’m not sure that move is going to happen quite so quickly.

The fans aren't going to get a taste of it if there isn't a single game played.

I give it 2-3 games before it all falls apart, but point taken.

I can see teams lining up to play OOC games against Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Pittsburgh, etc. How long would these teams fans put up with 2-10 seasons and no bowl games as they become canon fodder for the super P5 teams...

That would have been the case had professional leagues not started...but they'll start to be a disaster before college football starts and then it will be over.

I don't think this is the case. The really big programs like Bama, Ohio State Clemson probably make $6m for a home game. They may not like paying a G5 $1.5m, but they are still better off than playing a H & H. No way those programs are going to go from 8 home games to 6.

This move is to get out of paying these large buy games. They probably expect attendance to be limited to 50% or 25%, at which point paying $500k to $1.5m doesn't make sense. It will be interesting to see how the ACC handles their OOC now that the SEC didn't go along to preserve the rivalry games. If it wouldn't look so bad from a publicity standpoint, I bet they would change to a conference only schedule.

Don't get me wrong, when we are no longer useful for the P5 they will separate, but we haven't reached that point yet.

The ACC has already stated that the SEC's decision will not affect their 10+1 plan.

Plus this update from this morning:

Quote:While it appears the 10 games in conference are good to go for all of the teams involved, the plus one game is the biggest question. The plus one game can be out of conference but that game must be played in the home state of the ACC institution and the opponent must agree to the ACC health and safety guidelines and protocols.

“Yes, it appears so at this point in time,” Swofford said regarding ACC team’s plus one games. “We just had a conversation earlier this morning, actually, in regard to that and, yes, I think all of our schools are on track to have their one non-conference game that would be played either at home or in the home state of our respective institution.”

I’ll be watching CUSA and the other G5 leagues. Don’t care about them.

I don't for a minute think that the SEC will continue with ten league games. This is a straight up cash grab for this season. They make a lot of money with the extra couple of home games, and if they stay at ten league games there will be far fewer eight win plus teams in the conference.

Agreed. UAT pays Coastal Carolina $1.5 million but they still bank the revenue from 100k+ seats (and Saban gets to fulfill his promise to the 4* recruits that they would get playing time their first season on campus).

You don't think USM would have accepted a lesser payoff from Auburn for playing during the pandemic? I'm pretty sure they would have, that was an important game for them. I'll bet the UAB-Miami deal will be re-worked as well if that game is still on.

The OOC games could have been worked out satisfactorily for all but that wasn't the goal. The official rationale will be that was the only way to guarantee player safety due to the lack of resources in the G5 and FCS. Total bull****. They are forming their arguments for separation, official and otherwise. At their core, the P5 schools are elitists, and elitists are gonna elite. Teams like Boise, UCF, and UAB are an affront to all they stand for. The best way to degrade them is to discredit them competitively. Then the lower level P5's won't have to fight them for recruits. FCS (out of division) wins already count towards FBS bowl eligibility so there will be plenty of options to maximize revenue.

Look around, the rich are making bank on this pandemic. Everyone else is getting screwed. Why would college football be any different? No telling how the P5 will do it but I think they eventually take this opportunity to officially set themselves apart from the rabble.

RE: SEC to 10 game schedule with NO OOC games
I know a lot of G5 schools are hurting because they were banking on those 2 $$$ games. Right now, we have one game, Miami, that we are hoping on. Just seems like we are in a better of worse position when it comes to finances THIS year.

New Mexico was/is a home game
A&M was a home game
USA is an away game
Miami is an away game

Best case: we get to keep Miami ($$$) and USA, and just need to replace one or two home games.

Worst case: We lose our 1 $$$ game and have to replace 3 games.

AD Ingram seemed like ADs across the board were already in talks with each other. Hopeful some of those are with AAC teams like Memphis, Tulane, and maybe Houston.

If our regular season ticket holders agree to purchase tickets then we should be in a fairly good position. I still purchased my regular two this year and paid off my pledge.
