Mississippi highest positivity rate for Covid in US
MS has 21% of Covid tests positive after mandatory masks for most counties
Quote:“We are throwing everything that we can at the hospital crisis in our state, and we are going to continue working to ensure the integrity of our health care system,” reeves said
There is no "hospital crisis" in this state per the numbers below.
MS hospital stats as of July 29.
31% of hospital beds and 17% of ICU beds available. Of course MOST of the used beds and ICU beds are NOT Covid patients.
The mandatory masks for most counties went into effect July 13th and ever since the number of cases has increased dramatically. Coincidence? No. I don't think so. The research and studies done PRIOR to this "epidemic" state masks DO NOT help, but MAY even hurt. Well, that is presenting as true right in front of our eyes.

I can't stand the mask mandate. I'm being told to wear one to show I respect people, not because it's actually useful

If you wear a mask today and then wear the same mask tomorrow you are more than likely to get sick from it as the bacteria and fungus will grow in it overnight. My daughter's boyfriend works at a plant and has to wear one daily and he has had a terrible URI for about 2 weeks now. He knows it is from his mask because he works a 12 hour shift and can smell it after about an hour or so. 1. it isn't going to keep you from getting Covid and 2. it will more than likely get you sick. So you are better off not wearing it. For the umpteenth time. And for the bolded above. respect can only be earned, not mandated. Other people are not my problem. If you don't want to get it, stay home and leave me the Hell alone. I got things to do.

The masks aren't as much as a symbol of fear, so much as they are an attempt to convince people they're safe. Once you hype up a virus so much, people get terrified, so mask mandating is a way of telling "essential" workers they're safe.

Well, yeah. You aren't supposed to wear the same one two days in a row without washing it.

Ha. Pretty telling that is never mentioned in articles, on the news or during press conferences. Remember Americans aren't smart enough to get photo ids. Bacteria multiply in a matter of seconds. Wearing a mask continuously for an hour or a work shift will get you sick.

Yes, it should be common sense that something going on your face should be washed regularly or replaced, but we do have public guidelines.

Strange that nobody at my company has gotten sick, since it's such a sure thing.

RE: Mississippi highest positivity rate for Covid in US
'positivity' rate doesn't bother me one bit. 60mm people get the flu each year.... only 4.5mm people have gotten COVID

The issue to me is the death rate. I'm open to the idea that there may be other, lingering effects (I have a friend who had a stroke because of it, and of course, there are lingering effects from that) but that's not a 'fact' yet that this is any worse than anywhere else...

So let's look

Texas 29mm people 432k cases 7k deaths 1.5% chance you get it (using the measures that have been used) 1.6% chance that if you get it, you die
New York 19mm people 419k cases 32k deaths 2.2% chance you get it 7.6% chance that if you get it, you die
New Jersey 9mm people 183k cases 16k deaths 2% chance you get it 8.7% chance that if you get it, you die
Florida 22mm people 461k cases 6600 deaths 2% chance you get it 1.4% chance that if you get it, you die
Mississippi 3mm people 58k cases 1600 deaths 1.9% chance you get it 2.7% chance that if you get it, you die

Mississippi is slightly elevated in the seriousness of the disease, but not anywhere near NYC or NJ. There are of course, lots of reasons and explanations... but these are the facts.

It might be interesting to see if 'states who have been the most restrictive' are seeing results from that. People are all up in arms about Texas and Fl... but it seems that the real problems lie elsewhere.

Illinois is listed by some as being the most restrictive...
13mm population 179k infections 8k deaths. 1.4% chance you get it 4.5% chance that if you get it, you die hmmmmmm

I keep one at the house... I have two in the car, in case someone is with me who forgot theirs.... I have two in my saddle bag for the same reason... but it's been too hot to ride so those haven't really been used. I have a couple of old dirty N95s in the garage that I use for other purposes... and a couple more in a box there.

I tend to keep the ones in the car on the dash... heat/sunlight kills many of the other viruses people seem concerned about... but mostly so I don't have to look for them just to run in to buy gum while I'm getting fuel. Those are the ones I almost always wear. None have been washed ever... someone made them for me and they have a nose wire/band so they stay on easier, like glasses... and I'm not the only person to have worn them.

and I'm supposedly one of the crazy people... I think people sometimes make too much out of things.

Ive been using the same couple of mask from the onset of this. I just put them on the dashboard of my truck when I get in and leave it there until I need it. I don't see how any bacteria could survive that level of UV radiation and heat. Ive heard you can just nuke one in a microwave..but..not sure if that actually works.

I don't know if the damn things work effectively or not...but...I see nothing that would lead me to believe that they don't provide some level of protection. How much?..That for sure is debatable. I do the dashboard trick also and keep a couple in each vehicle. I see nothing crazy about it. I have a 91 and a 87 year old in my home with severe medical conditions. Im just trying not to bring this schit home to them. Neither would survive this if I did and Id have to live with that the rest of my life...not to mention my wife holding it against me for killing her parents.

Yeah, I have a couple masks I use at home running errands etc. and do the same as you. They don't seem to get dirty quickly, but also I'm not wearing them for long periods. When at work, having to wear them all day I use the surgical masks and replace them each day.

I think I've probably washed my mask once since all this started. Most of the time I'll wear it to the grocery store and then it sits in my car for an entire week until the next time I go to the grocery store. I hate wearing a mask so I limit going out as much as possible.

This. I also see nothing to lead me to believe that it's as big an inconvenience as some people are making it, IMO. I have a similar situation to yours. risk vs ask

Of course it's an issue for some... and they need to do what is best for them... but most of the cases I've seen have been people hyperventilating because they're freaking out over wearing a mask as if somehow, air can't get through... so they panic and they blame the mask... when the problem is 'them'.

I didn't mean to imply I don't think there's a real virus. I mean the numbers are cooked and the politicization is beyond rampant, hence bs.
