And now my attention turns back to David Cutcliffe
"Nobody gets something for nothing." Remember him coming out of the blue to the press about AD on that a few weeks ago? Right before David Teel was pressed into service as a Swofford soothe-sayer yet again.

Just who was he speaking for if not himself ... and the timing and ND news indicates it was not just himself.

Was that speaking on behalf of the Triangle and/or NC4?

Was that going over his own AD because Kevin White wouldn't know a football if one bounced off his skull, and has a conflict of interest on ND?

This also suggests to me that Cutcliffe is now considered firmly entrenched as the Duke FB HC and even if things go South he'll get time to mend them.

You need to take a close look at the press release regarding the ACC office internal changes and Swofford's retirement. Then look at the President who did most of the talking this week. There is your answer.

Duke and Carolina have used Duke coaches to articulate the pair's joint position on many ACC matters.
This one was no different. The demand was shared monies and perhaps other concessions from Notre Dame, and they got it.

Quote:It’s also notable that beyond stabilizing Notre Dame’s 2020 football schedule in a conference-focused world where they could have been left out entirely (the most important part of this picture), this move also could lead to a financial gain for the Irish. A full share of ACC TV revenue looks better for them than their own deal with NBC. As per a piece from David M. Hale and Dave Wilson of ESPN earlier this month, the 2018-19 financial year saw the ACC pay out at at least $27 million per institution in normal per-school distributions, with an average of around $29 million per school. Meanwhile, Notre Dame received around $7 million from the ACC for their non-football membership in the league, and their football deal with NBC (which runs through 2025) is reportedly worth around $15 million per year, and they get another $3.19 million from the College Football Playoff each year (regardless of if they’re selected; they were not in 2019-20, but were in 2018-19). So that suggests they received about $25.2 million in total last year (plus whatever they got from the Big Ten as an associate member there for hockey).

So it looks like being a full ACC member would have been worth at least $2 million annually to the Irish last year, and probably more likely around $4 million (putting them to that $29 million average).

The one thing this pandemic has shown that stability is good and when you are an independent you are on your own. The athletic administrators at Notre Dame had a lot of pressure on them because their cash cow (football) was possibly going to take a big hit because of the conferences only playing amongst themselves. There is something to be said for stability and guaranteed money and not having to scramble around and put something together.
