Not trying to be snarky but what is the Premier Championship referring to?

Also, not trying to dismiss the value of ND to NBC. Simply saying that the Premier League is a valuable property to NBC that is widely consumed. Honestly, when i watch NBC it's largely for the Premier League, with ND a distant second and golf, on the rare occasion they broadcast an event, third by a country mile (and i'd watch more golf if they broadcast more events).

Championship Sunday or whatever they called it for the finale. It was their highest rating of the year.

Wonder if that was family of networks (NBC, MSNBC, NBCSN, etc.) or just NBC proper. Either way, one college quadrupled an entire sporting conference, which shows how valuable ND is to their inventory...like I said, without them, NBC won't have significant eyes on their channel until 8pm on Sunday Night, and they're already getting killed by CBS and ABC.

Got it. i don't know if they will every pull a huge number for that either. FWIW, Liverpool clinched the championship two matches prior and the rest of the intrigue for that Sunday was spread across a handful of matches all starting at the same time across NBCs family of networks. The Premier League doesn't have playoffs or a dedicated championship match so the interest is diversified across a number of channels.

The point i was making was simply that plenty of ppl tune in for the EPL, not to compare the EPL to nd football. it would certainly be ludicrous to lose nd football for nbc.

NBC average viewership for EPL games this season was 457,000 per game on NBC (not all networks, just NBC), which was the highest average viewer count since they fully gained the license. The lowest viewership total for ND on any NBC network over the last 10 years was their game against Miami in 2017 on NBCSN which still drew 798,000 viewers). Their average is just north of 4,500,000 viewers over the last 5 years.

I love soccer, hell, its the reason why I came to UC...but NBC can't afford to lose ND, and they'll do everything they can to make sure it doesn't happen.

Yep. It’s the crown jewel of their sports programming in the fall. Reason this thread won’t get no tread.

Last go around when Da'Ville got the nod over us for the ACC and the B12's charade [faux] expansion a few years later that added no one left us to wallow in what could've been. To be fair, we got a late start on getting our facilities caught up to big boy standards and actually trying to look the P5 part. That box has been checked and now that our football program is back on track to go along with our historically strong brand of college hoops I just can't believe there is a better program out there when you factor in our geography and our recruiting/market region. We also have our biggest rival, Louisville, not to mention Pitt, that are both within a stone's throw for travel. It's hard for me to get the "excitability, anticipation meter" needle moving again after losing out to P5 entry over the years. That said, our university didn't invest in over $170 million in our football stadium and basketball arena to sit idly by in the G5. Our fanbase is rabid for the big time. All we can do is hope there is a future opportunity. Without that, there is ZERO chance for any change in conference status.

This isn't a debate about the value of nbc to ND. We are in agreement there. i've stated so much in my post.

Quite frankly i've always been slightly confused as to why NBC didn't air more EPL matches on NBC as all the early matches are on NBC SN. There might be limitations on the inventory they have access to. There are also streaming issues that cut into viewership numbers. Additionally, i understand that scheduling is done well in advance but they seem to be able to move matches around a lot easier but for some reason the nbc match always seems to involve at least one mid-tier team instead of two top tier squads.

All that said, i think you are being overly dismissive of the value of the EPL. That is really my point.

How many of those viewers o you suppose tuned in to see Christain Pulisic and Chelsea play?

I do not get the numbers. If Epl only gets half a million viewers, we should be on nbc weekly. Hell we get half a million against a decent opponent on the esnp news. We get over a million against a decent opponent on a decent channel.04-jawdrop https://www.sportsmediawatch.com/college...v-ratings/

I think that was done to primarily pin a bankable property onto their online sports platform...whether it was successful or not remains to be seen. I know I watched a ton more when Goal Zone was a thing...now I only pick up one game a weekend.

I remember Cuse played Cincy back in the mid 90s and was struck at the view on TV of some old powerplant or factory seen in the end zone. It wasn't a good impression. Now Cincy has great facilities and Nippert is now one of the most unique stadiums in college football.

Cincinnati actually threads the needle quite well among ACC fan bases. You possess enough football and basketball gravitas to be acceptable by both the football and basketball schools.

Cincy is being discussed here quite a bit at link below. Our ACC board could use some traffic so any one coming over should be welcomed.

Bolded, you'd get no argument here from our fans and your comments are certainly appreciated coming from someone outside the UC community who witnessed the transformation of the campus and athletic facilities.

Others here may feel differently but the ACC remains the dream destination in my mind for many reasons. We just want to see it happen--it feels like an eternity since the implosion of the (real) Big East and we're hopeful for the opportunity to compete on a bigger stage once again.

I have always thought the ACC would be the dream landing spot as well, and I'm pretty sure you'd get that from most every UC fan. We have history with almost every team in the conference (outside of the NC schools, Clemson, and UVA) and it fits geographically, and IMO culturally too.

Well other than dealing with the tobacco road politics the ACC is a great conference. The best thing is basketball is appreciated. Football is king now but the league isn't in the same sphere as the SEC and B1G but that is good. They (SEC/B1G) tend to have a myopic viewpoint. The Clemson and FSU fans are most like SEC fans. You guys would fit in like fingers in a glove with Ville, Pitt and Cuse. BC kinda too but they are all by themselves. Miami fans are FB first but being private they kinda are not as hardcore as Clemson/FSU. The NC and VA based fans have slowly come around and have accepted the newbies. A few diehards will never accept the BE schools.

I'm going to be the cynic... Unless and until the thing actually happens, and the ACC itself announces the addition of the University of Cincinnati to the Conference, it isn't a "thing." Custom letterhead and backdrops or not...

I agree with you about the Miami fans -- they can be intimidating, but they recognize when they've been beaten. Not sure I can say the same for FSU. (Sadly, I've never exeprienced a win over Clemson yet). But I have a serious question you could maybe answer ... what has Miami brought to the ACC since they joined? Other than the seemingly annual "Miami is back" pre-season story. Maybe they are what they will always be. A middle of the road conference football team, with a glorious past.

And I totally agree with you about diehards accepting the BE schools.

All in all, Cincy would be a great fit for the ACC. In so many ways.

I understand and agree; we've all been on this roller coaster far too long for any of us to enjoy the ride.

It's amusing to read that ACC board. Lots of kind comments about UC and it's always encouraging to hear good words from fans at P5 schools. But as soon as those popped up, you had a UCF fan who began lobbying the posters. LOL, as if these folks commenting have any power or influence in such decisions.

A few of the regulars over there who think they can lure Penn State or Texas, or alternatively go with an academic add like Rice and Tulane have not logged in yet. There’s also the Penn State/Villanova/UConn guy who thinks everything west of Happy Valley is “crap”.
