Great find, and I really like that headline.

I'm glad Dixie and Tarleton will get to experience one season of Levi. Be interesting to see how they deal with it.

"I had the privilege of talking to Javon Levi. In this interview, we talked about his achievements and being unrecognized for them, how he’s developed his game the past three seasons, and his plan to take down New Mexico State and win the conference next season."

I like him already.

Nice interview. Levi is one tough dude that can change a game.

He can change a game alright. Push a player in the back and severely injure him. He’s pulled that stunt on several occasions vs NMSU. I will enjoy watching NMSU sweep both little schools from Texas and beating them in their high school gyms

He should have been booted from several games I've seen.

Several severe injuries. Care to remind us of the details? Could have forgotten some, but the only serious injury that I can recall was Ivan Aurrecoechea and that wasn't Levi, it was Gueye, and it was a midair collision, not a push in the back.

But I guess it depends on your definition of severe injury. The mental agony of not getting a foul called on Levi when you had him dead to rights? Yeah, I'll concede that happens.

Young man sounds articulate. Im wondering what politics he's talking about by not making 1st team? UTRGV had a very mediocre record last year so I'm wondering how he thought UTRGV matched up last year. So the kid is like 0-10 vs. NMSU? Could see why he's a little frustrated.

Maybe they will have more than 200 people at the games to watch him this year.

Alright, this is a sports site so you're entitled to a little embellishment. But just since we have some new guys here:

(1) Our attendance wasn't great but it was a lot more than 200, and we typically come close to packing the house for the NMSU game.
(2) And no, Levi didn't "severely" injure "several" NMSU players, in fact I don't think he injured any NMSU players except maybe their feelings.

The interview made it clear that Levi and the rest of the team are focused on the number one goal, ending NMSU's conference win streak. They might have to do it in front of only 200 people, or even less, since Edinburg and Hidalgo County are now in the national news as a Covid hot spot.

RE: Check out this interview with Javon Levi!
I can't honestly say Levi injured any Aggie players in his time at UTRGV. But he is a very chippy player who intentionally tries to get under his opponent's skin. He is a ball hawk with a big mouth. And, Coach Hills defensive tactics are to play very aggressive and not to give up on any plays; almost to the point of injuring an opposing player. To this point, Aggie players (and other WAC teams) have had to play with their respective heads on a swivel when driving to the basket; not to get hacked across the face or undercut when trying to finish at the rim. Ivan Aurrecoechea was on a break away dunk when Gueye took him out at the rim; going through Ivan's body to "try" to block his shot. Now, I commend UTRGV's hustle but not to the point of injuring players. I will say UTRGV players gets their moneys worth when committing fouls in the paint. NMSU typically comes out of these matchups with a few more bumps and bruises than usual. And, player confrontations do get heated as UTRGV tries to flex its muscle; with Levi being one of the main instigator.

On a side note, knowing BCG style of coaching, I think the UTRGV/Tarleton State games could become slugfests. BCG instills a chip on the shoulder to his players (and a winning attitude) and I doubt he will except UTRGV bullying his team around court.

I don't think a rivalry will emerge between UTRGV and Tarleton State because of proximity. But I do think one might emerge because of respective playing styles and recruiting battles for similar type in-state players.

Seriously... Defense is the only reason why I prefer College over the NBA. I hope that your prediction about BCG is correct. During the Reisman(s) era(s), Defense and rebounding were the top priorities year in and year out.

While BCG was at UTEP, I remember his teams being very active. Defensively, they had active hands and feet; causing a good amount of turnovers. If BCG is back to his old self, I suspect he will have a very scrappy team at first; until he can bring in more length and size.
