Biden and Democrats deal Trump a green ace card
https://reason.com/2020/07/28/democrats-...joe-biden/

Quote:Democrats Wimp Out on Federal Marijuana Legalization. Thanks, Joe Biden!

The party rejects a position shared by two-thirds of the country (but not its presidential nominee).

According to Pew polling data, support for full legalization crossed the 50 percent threshold back in 2010 and has been growing ever since. Much like support for gay marriage recognition, this seems to be a permanent cultural shift in attitudes.

But unlike the Democratic Party's embrace of gay marriage, its leadership cannot seem to line up behind marijuana legalization, even as the Black Lives Matter and criminal justice reform movements highlight precisely how the drug war has led to the overpolicing and harassment of black communities.

Marijuana Moment reports that on Monday the Democratic National Committee rejected an amendment to put a plank supporting marijuana legalization into the party's platform. The final vote against, 50-106, is almost a perfect inversion of the two-thirds of the public who want legalization.

Why Trump doesn't push for legalization is beyond me. It's a no brainier.

Yeah if he has any doubt going into September/October on being re-elected, there is zero reason IMO not to.

1) It’s only a matter of time

2) Will gain lots of votes
-If there are people that will vote for a president just cause weed, well they might as well vote for an economic and foreign policy I generally agree with LOL

3) You can point to lower incarcerations for all including MINORITY crimes

4) Don’t be an all day-every day stoner but weed is probably the least harmful drug people use to get high/buzz/mini escape. The first real change in the WAR AGAINST DRUGS in what 50-60 years?
-Sorry Heroin/Coke/Certain Pills/Meth heads...for your drug of choice, it ain’t ever happening!

At the very least decriminalize the stuff. I know very successful 80 year olds who still smoke it and have for years. The private prison lobby must be strong and have deep pockets.

It is the best medicine I have found.

We have been trying to get the Republican held state legislature to bring medical marijuana to the floor for a vote for two years. Unfortunately the Bourbon lobby is strong and believes their industry would suffer if weed is legalized just for medicinal purposes.

A national legalization effort would certainly help us.

Some advice for anyone thinking of trying it for ailments. Stay away from edibles. Those things will mess you up.
I prefer smoke. Girl Scout Cookie is an exceptional strain.

meh.....his con base still votes...no reason to piss them off to the point of staying at home...he can play that card in '21-'23.. .

therefore, the play is to remain passive as the states 'hash' it out... 03-wink

Biden and Democrats deal Trump a green ace card
I thought he was going to do it in 2016. Now is his opportunity to get ahead of it. Wouldn't make any difference since it is ultimately a state right, but that is a tap-in misinformation campaign to keep youngens at home.

His base is showing up regardless. Marijuana legalization is about the only "left" issue I care about. He should snatch it from them since they are too chicken sh it to run on it when 90% of the country is for it.

He could support federal decriminalization... making only importation across the border remaining a crime... and make it an absolute state's rights issue and supporting border security and 'american jobs'.

This would be an essential nothing-burger because feds only rarely (rico charges?) enforce this law other than international trafficking.... it would appeal to many on the right and really put the left on their heels.

Of course Biden would cave and claim he's 'evolved' on the issue, but so what?

It would still be the Donald J. Trump 'We Embody Equality, not Dems' (WEED) bill

I think he should couch it as entirely a states’ rights issue. Decriminalize cannabis and hemp at the federal level. If states’ lawmakers and voters want to keep it illegal, that’s their right. If they make it legal, more power to them.

Living in MI, it hasn’t really changed anything except people pay a lot more for what they buy than they did before. Convenience factor is way up, however. That and a handful of large corporations now own the entire market. There are zero little folk allowed to enter the market. That’s pretty common wherever it’s been legalized. Let’s hear it for crony capitalism. Lol

I won't say I'm for or against it, but my neighborhood has a few dealers (assuming marijuana) that I wish their customers could go to a pharmacy to get the stuff and put the neighborhood dealers out of business.

Personally, I'm pro-legalization. But at a bare minimum, marijuana should be removed from the list of Schedule I drugs... There's no reason why it needs to be in the same category as heroin, MDMA, and peyote.

See, we can agree on some things.
