Honestly my thinking on our basketball coaching situation has evolved diametrically. I want Murph to get to 20 wins next season even if he beats Concordia, Goshen, Central State, etc... to get there. Budgetary concerns and the contract expiration of Steve Hawkins during this turbulence forced WMU to give the job to an unqualified assistant, at half the price. Their best players subsequently have transferred from a pretty bad team as well. I don't want to be in "that place".
A 20 win season gives Rob an automatic one year contract extension, thus we don't have to make the decision to either extend or fire him, we simply maintain the status quo for another year until the dust of Covid 19 settles.

Jerry, I agree with about 95% of your posts; however, I can not agree with this post. We’re going to have a non-normal football and basketball season. Rob will face MAC coaches that face the same challenges that he will endure at EMU. If he doesn’t get to a 20 win season or finishes less than 0.500 in the MAC, it’s time to see if Wetherbe can hire a coach and make us a MAC contender. I will admit that Wetherbe makes me very nervous as an AD based on what I’ve seen so far. This would be his first big hire.

Lucky I have no problem with your core thinking, Murph has not won anything and probably won't in D1 basketball. I just don't want to conduct a coaching search after this season. Covid 19 has ravaged University financials, I doubt Prez Smith will want to present a new coach with a lucrative contract, the optics would be horrible. Murph is not great but he is hardly a disaster, I just want to tread water for the time being.

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University, in conjunction with the unanimous decisions made by the Mid-American Conference Council of Presidents, has made the difficult but necessary step to postpone all fall 2020 athletics contests and championships to spring 2021. The decision was made with the health and safety of its student-athletes, coaches and communities as its top priority.

The Mid-American Conference winter sports of swimming & diving, gymnastics, indoor track & field, and men's and women's basketball are not impacted by this decision.

He'll probably get another year due to the unusual circumstances.

We can ill afford to let him continue to drive this program into oblivion.

Very possible that most conferences delete OOC games.
