NBA and China
https://www.thewirechina.com/2020/07/26/nba-in-a-jam/
"...NBA commissioner Adam Silver took a mulligan, holding a press conference in which he explicitly defended “freedom of expression.” While this new stance mollified some of his American critics, it only inflamed the Chinese side. CCTV, China’s big state-run television network, pulled all NBA games from its broadcast schedule. Tencent cut off all preseason games, before reinstating a reduced schedule. And all of the NBA’s Chinese corporate partners, including travel website Trip.com and smartphone maker Vivo, halted business with the league. Silver later estimated that the NBA lost close to $400 million in revenue.
Until Morey’s tweet, the NBA had been enjoying ludicrous success in China. “It was really all guns blazing, firing on all cylinders,” says Mark Fischer, former managing director of NBA China and now CCO of the East Asia Super League...."

RE: NBA and China
IF the NBA had chosen not to virtue signal with the NC bathroom bill, they wouldn't be stuck between a rock and a hard place.
Hopefully Nike will feel the heat over China next.

RE: NBA and China
Silver is just one guy.... let's see what the players think.
He finally did it right, but my bet is they will be pizz'd because it will cost them endorsement money over there.
Jordan famously said "Republican's buy sneakers too".... he could not get away with riding that fence today.

NBA and China
I guess china could be the savior after alienating a huge chunk of their home Country’s fan base. I don’t see how they continue to flourish here with likely 10-15% of anyone really paying any attention.
I gave up more than a decade ago, became unwatchable first, then insufferable to boot.
F em. Good luck...

When a dumb high school graduate turned NBA star was telling me what I should think I gave up on those idiots. It's not like I was watching them anyway but that was the last straw. Screw Le Bomb, I hope he loses a lot of money, and oh, keep on bouncing that ball, that's all your good for, and lucky for you that you could.

The NBA lost its way long ago. I’d rather watch the developmental league than get preached to by bloviating jerk head coaches and players who have never set an unshielded foot in the real world as an adult. Fold up the tent for all I care.

https://www.cbssports.com/nba/news/nba-a...er-report/
The NBA is facing several allegations of child abuse at its academies in China, according to Steve Fainaru and Mark Fainaru-Wada of ESPN. The allegations come from employees and coaches at three academies in China, including one in Xinjiang that has since been closed. One coach described the entire enterprise to ESPN as "a sweat camp for athletes." At least two coaches reportedly left jobs at the academies over the treatment of its athletes.
The allegations come from a number of fronts. The NBA has received at least three reports of physical violence against players, including one incident in which a Chinese coach allegedly threw a ball at a player's face before kicking him in the stomach. There was also an incident involving a player suffering from heat exhaustion. Bruce Palmer, formerly the technical director of a private basketball school that had a sponsorship agreement with the league which allowed it to call itself an "NBA training center," said that he routinely had to tell coaches in China not to physically harm athletes.

Eff pro sports and I'm almost at the point where I say eff college athletics as well. I know the UofM won't get another dime from me.
The only athletic events I'm even interested in these days are golf and MMA. We'll see how long before both of those start sucking the teat of wokeness.

RE: NBA and China
The part that pisses me off more than anything is people think these athletes are smarter than everyone else. They are wealthy but that does not make them smart.
It is easy for most of them to get up on their bully-pulpit and take a stand against our government and Trump when they have enough to feed 5 generations of their family. Let these f-cks work for $20-$30/hour like the rest of us for 30 years. With the NFL being less of an exception, most athletes thee days do not complete their college educations and are so coddled as HS superstars, they don't get fully educated at that level either. These people "know better" than I do? Fuk them..... They have rich people problems - not real every day life problems.
