Cincinnati one of two fb programs...
...to win a championship in 6 different conferences.
That's impressive to me: it says the Bearcats don't draw their strength from their conference - their football program is inherently strong regardless of conference.

Actually it says to me that TCU and UC football have bounced through a lot conference affiliations...

Yeah appreciate it, but outside some outlier years here and there in between 1910s-1960s, this is more about just moving conferences than the strength of the football program.
Since 2005, the UC football program has been very respectable IMO though.

I always forget Cincinnati was a 2014 co-champ with us and Memphis.

Very good stat Cincinnati.
Tulsa's impressive conference champ stat is that we have won the 6th most CCG's all-time in FBS with 35. Coming in ahead of Texas and Alabama.
We laid waste to the MVC for quite some time.

Temple has won a conference championship more recently than Miami.

All of those preseason magazines have conflicting goals:
1. be as accurate as possible for long-term reputation.
2. appeal to the vanity of as many fans as possible to sell now.

Cinci has done well the past 15 yrs or so. They've had good decision makers there when it comes to hiring athletics directors who in turn have made good decisions about their coaching hires. Hats off to them. Well, except for the Tuberville hire, but it was short lived. That whole deal was odd, both from him leaving Texas Tech, to Cinci hiring him and his lack of success there. I still wonder what happened at Tech.

I'm not saying that the Tuberville hire was good, but if you really look at it, it wasn't all that bad. In 4 years he went to 3 bowl games. His team won a conference championship in 2015. His handling of the Gunner Kiel/Moore QB situation was a trainwreck in 2016, but if it had been left up to him, Gunner Kiel would have never taken a snap in 2016 after abandoning the team before the bowl game in 2015. Some will argue that he did it with Butch Jone's players and Tommy couldn't recruit, well Luke Fickell has done quite well with Tommy's players since then.

There's a lot more to it than making a few good coaching hires. The athletic department and the university really neglected the program in the 70s, 80s and part of the 90s. Very little money went to football, it all went to the basketball program. Nippert Stadium, built in 1924 was so poorly maintained it was close to being condemned in the late 1980 (this is not hyperbole).
In retrospect, getting in CUSA in 1995 was the beginning of the rise of UC Football (this is actually documented in a book titled Bearcats Rising). This helped UC recruit a little better than what they had done as an independent (there is a lot of football talent within the metro area and within 100-200 miles of campus). By the early 2000s UC was starting to draw better crowds than what they had in the 1990s, which meant more revenue for the program. The Big East invite and success obviously drew it to an even higher level, and attendance jumped from the 20s to 35K or so it is today.

Nah he was terrible, and all you have to do is ask the players. A big problem was player development. Korey Cunningham, a Tubs recruit who played 3 years under TT and one year with the CLF staff, said if he had the coaching he got in the 1 year under the later regime, said he would have much more productive at the college level and it would have prepared him better to be an even better player at the next level (he is in the NFL but serves primarily in the two deep on the OL).
If Tuberville would have stuck around for another year or so he would have set the program back for years to come. The administration nipped it at the right time.

Yes, but in every conference shift somebody always wanted us before they called ECU.

so salty. Must suck to have the 2 worst major programs in the AAC. Just freaking win something, anything, before opening your yapper and looking like a fool.

Everyone is happy to have Cincy in their conference until they start losing to UC.
Boosters and alumni don’t take kindly to losing to Cincinnati.
