I guess nothing is official, but I've seen it reported that he will have to sit out this season and then has 2 seasons left. Sounds like he's a heckuva shooter - 39% on 3s last year per a different article. Here's an excerpt from the Enquirer:

His year-to-year scoring increase of 14.2 points per game was the second-largest in college basketball this season.

The OVC tourney was one of the few that was completed. Belmont won the OVC title over Murray State, with Kunkel delivering the assist on the game-winning basket in the final seconds.

Kunkel had other great moments last season, including a career-high 35 points against Boston College.

Speculation grew immediately that he will eventually end up at either Cincinnati, Xavier or Northern Kentucky, but no official word came on Tuesday. College basketball pundits expect him to have a lot of options.

The whole transfer portal is exciting, and I like that Coach Brannen is active in it, but as a whole I just don't care for it.

It feels like free agency.

Putting up 35 on an ACC team is pretty impressive. Not sure if he fills a need, but if he wants to come home, he's certainly worth a visit.

From our experience with Jaevin Cumberland and Cane Broome moving up from lower conferences, it reasons to stand he could at the very least be a nice role player.

That sucks...a proven commodity in a decent mid major conference who wanted to be here and he ends up across town. That's the way the cookie crumbles some times, but it still bites knowing he's the kid of kid Brannen seems to want (rangy, strong shooting wing).

While I think it is probably more likely than not, I dont know of this is much of an indicator. If you're Brannen, you hold a spot for an All-Conference player if there's a 50% chance of him coming back unless you REALLY want to lose your job when he announces his transfer because the shooting guard from an OVC school took his spot.

Wish we had a spot for him, but quality transfers this late in the game are rare and I feel like every single player on our roster currently has the potential to be a difference maker at some point. I predict Kunkel will be the next Xavier guy to come off the bench and hit 5 or 6 three pointers in a Crosstown Shootout.

Nah, he shoots in the upper 30s to low 40s from deep...way too good of a shooter to go 6/7 from 3 against us

It will be interesting to see if a late add like this runs off frosh recruits after year 1 due to playing time, etc. X has had a problem with guys leaving, and when you add a guy with experience it often is at the expense of new kid. Time will tell.
