Covid 19 now impacting Latinos more than any other race
The Los Angeles Times reported today that the rate of cases among Latinos is more than twice as high as whites in Los Angeles County (876 per 100,000 residents). And since LA is almost 50 percent Latino now (!), that would be one very big reason their numbers are so high.

The other races -- Pacific Islanders (2511 per 100K - but it's a smaller group of people), American Indian (559), Black (494), White (409) and Asian (330) (for some reason, they didn't include Long Beach or Pasadena in their charts but I believe that's a pretty up-to-date look at the most recent cases in that county).

I haven't seen the breakdown in other states but look where the cases are spiking - Texas, Florida and Arizona which just happen to have the most Hispanics in the country after California. That can't be a coincidence. And in Texas, the cases along the border are especially high. Hidalgo County in particular, and then Nueces County where 85 children under the age of 2 were recently diagnosed with Covid (including 1 death) may be the two worst hit big counties in Texas currently.

These numbers aren't surprising to me, and there are a lot of reasons why you could point to why this is happening (including income, living conditions, medical insurance, and jobs which probably are very tough to do at home and/or maintain social distancing in).

I'm obviously not saying that Covid can't impact people of all ages and color. But to me, this is a big story that the media is mostly ignoring (for now). Even the LA Times when they reported these numbers chose to focus on the fact that Pacific Islanders had the highest rate of cases (when in my eyes, the Hispanic numbers were the bigger story).

What is the death rate? Infections mean nothing.

Covid 19 now impacting Latinos more than any other race
Without painting with too broad a brush, I would guess some of it is cultural too. Machismo (I ain wearing no stinkin mask), large gatherings for family birthdays etc.

Same goes for segments of the AA population as well, Church gatherings, again, birthdays, anniversaries, bringing home a baby who knows. I drove by a front yard filled with bouncies, slides. sprinklers going. Probably 40-50 people alll over the yard having what looked like a grand old time, picnic tables filled with food and people. While stopped at the light I watched for a few seconds, nary a mask to be found. As normal a scene as you’d expect all over on a hot Saturday afternoon, until now.

Thanks china...

What does this have to do with politics outside of the prog filth always framing issues in terms of race?

I'll make an admission here. I've been to many Friday night get togethers with friends since this thing started. 20-30 people at a time, maybe a little more than that once or twice. No one wears masks, no one social distances. We shake hands and we hug. We cook out and play games and dance. No one has gotten infected. Or at least, no one has gotten sick and certainly no one has died. *shrug*

For now, the death rates in LA at least are pretty close to the county demographics. But I bet you that changes over time since more Latinos are now getting sick.

American Indian 0.2 percent of deaths and LA population
Asian 15.1 percent of deaths, 14.5 percent of population
Black 10.5 percent of deaths, 8.2 percent of population
Latino 46.6 percent of deaths, 49.3 percent of population
Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander 0.4/0.2
White 25.5/27.6

1.8 percent of deaths not attributed to a race yet.

Why would income or medical insurance have any impact on rate of infection?

This isn’t surprising, they live together, work together, and commute together. If one has it they’ll all have it.

Could it be they're not following guidelines as at least one politician suggested?
