TK hopefully won’t miss out on some of these tweeters... It’s not like he is going up against Kentucky or Louisville for these guys...

Norhtern Kentucky is a very good program. 2 trips to tourney and one to the NIT in the past four years. They were on they're way to another post season bid this year too.

true, they have stayed near the top of that league pretty consistently. i mean, they haven't had better teams on average than UT, but they've gotten to the dance. vinson is a fun guy to watch. got a little pistol pete in him.

RE: A couple men's basketball recruiting notes
minor update

couple guys on the Rocket's board have committed elsewhere in past 2 weeks. latest was 6-6 forward trey woodyard who pledged to valpo. i imagine the rockets getting a commit recently from another 6-6 forward changed the recruiting dynamic there. rockets also just offered omar figueroa, a 6 foot pg from florida but originally from the hometown of former rocket sammy villegas, carolina, PR. interesting offer as figueroa didn't have any before this and is a 2021 recruit. plays for one of the top christian prep schools in florida and has played good competition. there's some recent video of him out there. one of those relaxed, under control players with a soft touch but good quickness. not sure if he was underrecruited due to being a recent transfer to a prep power that already has major recruits on the roster or what. also, not sure we need another pg with the 2 freshmen pgs looking great in practice, although rollins can also play a wing. a few talented guys on our radar are still available, some notable ones to me; omar ziegler-big physical combo guard out of Detroit-the guy I really want, landon wolfe a 6-5 sleeper guard from iowa who has recently risen to a top 5 ranking among iowa seniors, mannie harris a hyperathletic scorer from Georgia with a ton of mid major offers, jamiya neal an athletic toledo kid who is at prep school still holds an older UT offer among about 10 mid major options but i don't know if UT is still going after him

Neal went out to some fancy prep in Az I think. Team had some players with top ten rankings so that says something about Neal's potential. Still some talent on that Rogers' team. They'll probably be favored.

couple new tidbits

rockets offered anthony sayles, 6-2 guard who was also offered by the toledo rockets... football team as a qb. physical up and down lead guard in basketball and big hs winner in both sports, but hasn't announced which sport he will play in college in 2021.

derrick "mannie" harris 6-3 scorer is one of the more exciting offers, imo. he has trimmed his long list of mid major options - cutting kent st and others - but still has UT in the mix.

buffalo just got verbal from a 3 star forward for 2021. ball st got a 6-4 shooter with a lot of low-mid major offers.

half of kent state's roster is hurt or in rehab from off season surgery. coach said they have 7 active guys.

most of the mac is looking older. good perimeter guys back at the strong programs. some teams may play smaller lineups.

lots of uncertainty still w schedules

Local talent getting interest from Toledo -

2021 G/F George Mangas – Ohio’s reigning Player of the Year in Division II looks more than ready to try his hand at the award for a second straight season. In a competitive and upbeat open gym environment, Mangas was special with nearly every catch of the basketball. Pouring in shots from all over the floor, he showed his ability to knock down the triple off the catch or off the dribble with a high degree of efficiency and difficulty. Was strong finishing in transition and around the rim. Came off screens hard, competed, and saw things one step ahead of everyone else on the floor. Has good size and can get it done on the defensive end of the floor. Very smart, doesn’t do a lot of talking, can flat out hoop. Currently holds an offer from Findlay, with interest from Toledo, Miami (OH), West Liberty, Fairmont State, and many others. Doesn’t get near the attention a talent of his caliber should.

RE: A couple men's basketball recruiting notes
Spring offer Julius Rollins from Illinois (I think from Juice Brown and Taylor Adway's alma mater) just verballed to kent. very athletic guy maybe 6-6 had a ton of horizon offers, toledo and kent were prob his best.

it appears that there is no eligibility clock on this year. so, seniors who want to come back can. i think marreon wants to try and make the nba next year so I doubt he comes back. littleson is already in his 5th year. so, i could only see that if he's making progress on a graduate degree and come back for academic reasons as well. he'd be a grown ass man in his 6th year. basically, i don't think this changes our next class. 2jones opted out but apparently is planning to return, who knows. we got one commit. 2 definite spots. maybe a 3rd (Jones?) or 4th ('21 transfer out).i'd expect a second by early signing days. we likely keep scouting and recruiting in case more spots open by spring.

From the best, by far, high school in the state. He’s their second POY in the state. Not a lot of D1 hoops talent between him and Jeff Miller in 1965, though. Some incredible track talent, but not much in hoops. 03-wink

Boggles doesn't it. Beat Lima Senior with their height and 2-3 DI to be players. Not short at 6'3". If a Ryan Smith and Dakota Mathias can end up at Purdue, Mangas is B10 caliber. "Interest" from Toledo in an insult. Should have had a solid offer.

Mathias level talent for Rockets would be sweet indeed. Littleson plays a lot like Mathias.

RE: A couple men's basketball recruiting notes
Summer Rocket recruiting targets Aiden Noyes (OH kid to Richmond) and Landon Wolf (Iowa kid to Northern iowa) both committed elsewhere this week. swingmen types with a range of offers (Noyes the better list of the 2). no shame in losing a recruit to either of those schools that make periodic tourney appearances. imagine the rocekts still hoping for 1 more strong commit to give them 2 early signings. next year's roster is hard to predict w COVID, eligibility waivers and all, but we will likely have Shumate, Moss and (possibly) Jones coming eligible along with whoever else we sign. so, even just 2 commits means essentially a 5 man class.

Guess my question is who are the most likely left on our recruiting board to be considering UT? We offered a ton of guys again; now the list is getting a bit smaller with these verbals to other schools the past few weeks. Who are the available mid-level guys most worth still pursuing & hoping for? Thoughts?

i like ziegler from detroit who is a big physical guard who can defend big time and is also a good ballhandler and mid range shooter. looks like a big 10 recruit and defends like it. i think he's under-recruited (although he has had a couple P5 schools involved) because he doesn't play on a high profile aau or club circuit and is neither a pure pg or 3 point shooter-kind of a tweener guard. i also like mannie harris from georgia who is a pure scorer. he's trimmed his long list of mid major offers and ut is a finalist but there's still a bunch of other teams. i haven't seen any exciting big men offers that are still on the table.

Its hard to say who TK is focused on. He's usually got the inside track on some highly skilled transfers. Among the prospects on Verbal Commits I am intrigued by Anthony Sayles a point guard from Illinois. He is widely regarded as the top pg in his class in the state. That's saying something in talent rich Illinois.

yeah, I concur on that final sentence. at the same time we seem pretty point guard rich right now with rollins and hall as impact freshmen and another frosh, acunzo, who plays point forward more or less. part of my thinking w ziegler is that he can play anything from pg to sf which seems like a better roster fit but i think with all the uncertainty over covid, transfers and ncaa eligibility rules you probably just sign the best players you can and adjust around positions as things-possibly-clarify in the near future.

Not a true PG or 3 pt. shooter, big physical guard that defends. This, to me, sounds like a Marcus Smart type player. That's a guy you want on your team.

Prep Hoops on Ziegler - "Omar Ziegler
(2021, 6-5, CG, Detroit King)

Zeigler is an all-around player who will fill up stat sheet. He loves the ball being in his hands and when it is, he is going to do something that will benefit his team. His midrange game is outstanding but what has taken him to the elite level is the improvement of his perimeter. College coaches Zeigler is a winner." posted by Paul Garwood 10/26/20

Early signing period is Nov 11 - 18.

Meanwhile Verbal Commits reports the Rockets have offered another Center from England for 2021 Class.

well, i bet we sign him. if you are gonna offer a kid a week before the signing date and you just so happen to have a frontcourt built around most of the top inside talent to come out of that, relatively, basketball poor country, it's hard to see him say, "nah, i think i'll go to montana state". or however they say it in england. meets the eye test. tall, strong, long, likes to dunk very hard (those dinky english gym backboards are the real star of his highlight reel). i mean, he plays with and against kids who are more like the jv in america. so, i think the approach is get him on the court and around these other more polished and experienced hard working bigs in our program and see what he can be. i like that he's lefthanded. i loved the play in his reel where he flat-flooted swats a mid-range shot to about half court. of all the kids 6-8 or bigger we have officially offered he's the most intriguing.
