Not a problem for me. It may still kill me one day but it won’t be due to not using whatever is available to avoid it.

According to an article in the WSJ this morning (How Deadly is Covid-19? Researchers Are Getting Closer to an Answer), global infection fatality rate is between .5 and 1%. Among "confirmed" cases, 4.2%, but that doesn't take into account mild or asymptomatic cases. CDC reported in JAMA Internal Medicine that for every known case of Covid19 that roughly 10 more went unrecorded (through beginning of May).

"An analysis of 26 different studies estimating the infection-fatality rate in different parts of the globe found an aggregate estimate of about .68%, with a range of .53% to .82%"

Article says that the CDC's latest estimate, released July 10, is .65%. The Imperial College London estimates the fatality rate in China at .66%.

Also mentioned is that for ages 65 and up, fatality rate could be as high as 5%.

We spent $3 Trillion on a war after 1.6% of the daily population of the World Trade Center was killed.

Hopefully CUSA is working with other conferences, like the SunBelt, MAC, or even the SoCon to help schedule lost games. Maybe a scheduling alliance going forward as some have proposed.

yes that number is higher, but that number is not the total population mortality rate, it is the infection mortality rate. It appears (although I have yet to see peer reviewed articles on this topic) that the expected population infection rate is thought to be less than 20% (flu is 3-11% in the US for comparison). If 20% of global population eventually were infected, and the infection fatality rate was .65%, then the population mortality rate would be: .13% or 10 million global deaths. For the US that would be 487 thousand deaths.

Now, since the infection mortality rate for those under 75 is very low (.05%), and the normal mortality rate of over 75 year olds is already very high (11%), then an adjustment would be made to change attribution of the 487 thousand US deaths. Remember that 56% of covid deaths are in those over 75. 2.2 million over age 75 pass from "normal" causes every year (~22.5M in that age cohort). I think it is fair to assume that half of the >75 who die from Covid would have died of another cause anyway in a given year. Adjusting the 487k covid deaths down to 350k backs into a population mortality rate of .09%.

In other words, a population survival rate of 99.91% or approaching the frenchy multiplier :). Speaking of frenchy and mortality risks/rate, I am fairly sure that you have a higher risk of mortality driving with Luc to a Florida state v UAB football game than you do catching and passing from Covid :)

Supposed statistics of the "actual" death rate among those infected is just fuzzy math because we have piss poor testing. The real number that can't be fudged in either direction is the fact that hospitals are full of patients they wouldn't otherwise have, and hospitals are having to stack bodies in refrigerated trailers. Dead bodies aren't a statistical exercise that can be handwaved away

And I'd also note that getting into a car with Frenchy is a voluntary act, catching corona at the grocery store from someone who was at Disney last week is not

It will likely be the Microsoft of vaccines. Full of bugs, will need regular updates and will likely come with the requirement of periodically purchasing new versions to continue functioning, and to make others filthy rich.

Someone insert paranoid Bill Gates comment here...I havent seen the documentary.

So what's the rate on the Covid survivors with lung damage, cardiomyopathy and arrythmia, kidney damage, strokes, blood clots, neurological damage, and more?

f you are old and you are in real bad shape dont get it ,,,,,wearing a cloth mask won t do it despite the new expert say

fyi news people and cdc
need to give you the worst scenario that way most people will protect the vulnerable people (over 75 ,,real immunosupress people aka transplant , aids )

Quote:UAB seeking volunteers for COVID vaccine trial

Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham are looking for up to 500 people to participate in a clinical trial of a promising vaccine for the virus that causes COVID-19.

UAB Hospital announced this week that it will begin human trials next month on a vaccine being developed by researchers at Oxford University and AstraZeneca.

The researchers will not deliberately expose patients to the virus, but they are looking to enroll people in the study who have a high likelihood of encountering the virus in their day-to-day lives.

“We’re actually interested in vaccinating people in nursing homes, for instance, or assisted living, people who work in distribution centers like Amazon, possibly people who are working in the car factories, Mercedes, Honda, for instance,” Goepfert said. “Places where people are have to be close together, and they really don’t have any other choice but to work close together.”

People who want to volunteer for the vaccine trial at UAB can call 205-934-6777 for more information.

I went to a UAB-TCU game in Ft Worth several years ago ( drove myself with Friends or Family,, cant remember who), and Frenchy also attended. He drove out there. went to the game, and then drove back home the same day as I recall... Had to work the next day I think.

Hey...I was in that van...went to midnight madness (b-ball), went home to catch a power nap, left Bham at something like 4am, drove to Fort Worth, watched game, drove back.
I got a ticket on the way back.
When anybody mentions how fast Frenchy drives, I always think “the last time I got a speeding ticket, that dude was asleep in the back seat”

Great trip
