Wow, have you missed that some of the greats you mention didn't play on the defensive line. Jerry Sazio was a linebacker and Joe Montgomery an offensive center who didn't even play defense.

Yeah, Cannon has to make the list. 9 years in the NFL, 22 sacks. Lou Creekmur is an NFL HOF'er. Buster was more of an offensive lineman, but played both ways (also HOF), so, there are certainly arguments to be made here.

Cannon was a man amongst boys at the college level. He was so nasty on the field, but not at all that way in real life. He was a very lean lineman with massive natural strength. He played against better competition than the recent 1985-present players.

Creekmur, Ramsey and co. were counted as Offensive Linemen -- check out our O-Line All-Time list and you'll see them there.
I'll also say that a lot of names being mentioned are: John Cannon, Raheem Walker, Luke Cullinane, and Craig Staub.

Just because Creekmur, Ramsey and Marvin Bass were on your offensive linemen greats list shouldn't preclude them from the defensive linemen group.
Jackie Freeman would tell me that Bass and Ramsey on defense were two of the fastest, quickest defensive players in their defensive positions that
he had ever seen. Both were named to the Virginia All-Century team.

W&M Football All-Time Team: DEFENSIVE LINEMEN
I've heard of VA Football HOF, but no an All-century team. Were they named to the VA All-century team as OL or DL? That detail matters in the context of this debate.

The Richmond TD selected an All-20th Century team some 20 years ago.
