Kirk had shoe boxes and used car sources.

I always heard Larry played it straight but our boosters helped out outside of his overt awareness.

Allegedly, a lot of them. That’s why he needed a station wagon.

Finch recruited 7 (Elliott Perry, Anthony Douglass, David Vaughn, Deuce Ford, Cedric Henderson, and Lorenzen Wright); Pastner recruited 5 (Joe Jackson, Jelan Kendrick, Adonis Thomas, Shaq Goodwin, and Dedric Lawson); Calipari recruited 4 (Dajuan Wagner, Darius Washington, Derrick Rose, and Tyreke Evans); Penny 2 (Wiseman, Achiuwa).

That’s the names that actually came here. Weren’t there other MAAs that either committed or signed and didn’t play college ball?

Many that is why the NCAA came up with the one and done Calapari rule.

NCAA didn't implement the one and done rule. It is an NBA ruling, that came about because of so many high school players being misevaluated and costing money to teams for under performing.

RE: Was Coach Finch Best Recruiting Coach?
I always thought Finch to be a very good recruiter & floor coach. Unfortunately health conditions robbed him of a lot of his steam. Had he maintained good health, I think he would have coached as long as he wanted & it would have resulted in a record that would never be matched at our university. I remember, having been there, how Memphis completely dismantled the field in the Cotton States Classic in Atlanta & the then GA coach, High Durham, expressed later that Memphis had the best team in the country. Unfortunately Finch had inherited & recruited some players that resulted in probation. I use this example to show how effective his floor coaching was - and for which Finch gets little credit.

Although Penny wasn't a McDonald's All American (because of grades), he was the Parade Player of the Year. Had he been academically eligible, he would have been the #1 recruit that year (aka James Wiseman).

And yet even with all the talent, he's only mustered up one championship thus far in his career and left his last two schools on probation. He may be the best recruiter in the history of CBB, but he certainly has underperformed as coach.

Finch is the GOAT...

He got his players, Dana's players, some of Bartow's best...

And since he got Penny; he gets .20 credit for each of Penny's recruits (mult-line marketing airplane scheme kind of an AmWay thing...).

Close the book, case closed, no discussion, drop the mic... walk off.

Absolutely, how can you argue with that. He gets
at least partial credit for
Lee, Bedford, Askew, Turner, Boyd, Phillips, etc
Full credit for
Perry, Vaughn, Hardaway, Mundt, Henderson, Wright, etc
and aprtial credit for
Harris, Jefferies, Achuiwa, Wiseman, Cisse, Quinones, Baugh, etc, and going forward

Where would we be without Finch?
No final four in 72
Maybe no great teams in the 80s
None of his teams
No Hardaway
The only great team that didn't include Finch's influence was Callipari's, but would he have ever even thought of coming here without the ground work Finch had done. The greatest person ever in Tiger basketball history.

I would love to see how he and George Lapedis would feel about Penny being the coach.

Penny at this rate is our best recruiting coach ever.

Finch was great before his health problems.

Bartow did wonders landing Finch, Kenon and Robinson

The one who recruited them certainly didn't do wonders. He ruined Mike Butler. He certainly wasn't his dad (who won national championships at OSU).

No doubt. He couldn’t have done it without Leonard Draper, Sr.
