MLB has their plan, NBA has the bubble, MLS is moving forward, and the NFL will more than likely do something. But those players are all going to work. By your reasoning they should have music fest, bbq fest, crowds at games, movies, and he rest provided they only let younger people attend. College athletes are participating in an extracurricular activity, no matter how much money is involved.

Think our guys might get something like this?

Something like this turnaround, posted today by Shelby County?

Yeah, hopefully that keeps trending down but football is national and nationally we are blowing up....especially the South.

Here's the whole US, for comparison. It has projected with easing, expected, and perfect mask use.

I’m not sure how much stock I’d put into the projection for universal mask mandate. If it were that effective, why wasn’t it option #1 before mass shutdowns?

With that said, let’s all wear the damn masks because I’m sure it will help some and at this point some is better than nothing.

RE: AAC to require COVID testing 72 hours before games
Since healthy individuals of all ages are recovering (and the vast majority without hospitalization) why are we continuing this shutdown? Of course all life is precious but the aged & infirm are going to die of something - it's always been this way. Until the recent manipulation of stats to single out Covid-19, the infirm & aged were dying primarily due to pneumonia & flu. These folks know who they are & they have always known the risk of societal exposure - BUT WE DIDN'T SHUT DOWN THE COUNTRY to protect them, as impossible as that idea is (in most states the majority of deaths are in nursing homes, exactly where those deaths would occur without Covid-19). When the healthy are at multiple times more likely to be murdered than due of this virus, the entire thinking of our leadership (whichever side you are on,) is totally illogical.

Bristol had more than a few fans in attendance:

I'm telling you all right now, if you can sort through the conservative's denials and the liberal's exaggerations, you will see that this thing has almost run its course. People (most of us) don't live and breath politics like we do sports. Testing is showing rampant infections, yet death rates continue to decline. It was a scary pandemic and thank goodness is wasn't as bad as originally thought. I think this virus isn't going anywhere, but its effect on our society will soon fade away and even though football will be tough, basketball will most likely happen even if delayed a few weeks.

A lot of the insanity will magically stop on Nov 4th after re-election. Wait and see. Football season is probably toast, but maybe basketball will get played since it technically doesn't start until after the election.

Honestly, this testing isn't even difficult. Every college/university has a lab they could dedicate to this testing. It could be largely run by scholarship students earning community service hours.

That’s a nice thought but largely inaccurate. There are specific machines that run these tests and they are very expensive. In Memphis, several of our hospitals don’t even have the necessary machines in our lab and send their tests out although most are in the process of acquiring the needed machines since this disease isn’t going away.

There is also a shortage of the reagents needed to process many of the tests. One of the main private labs here in Memphis has told at least one of the major hospitals that they can no longer process their tests because they are to backlogged and are getting only a limited number of reagents in because such a large quantity are going to Texas, Florida, and other hot spots.

I appreciate your input, but (just like some of the Memphis hospitals) you've missed the boat. You don't need the cdc version of the covid-19 test to test. You can mix your own medium and run your own path sample in a micro lab to look for sars-cov-2, as long as you know what you're doing and what to look for. And......that's what these guys do. There is enough info available to do this easily using materials already in university labs across the country.

Yes, some testing facilities have had issues with shortage of the rapid test reagent.

It's not necessary. When testing 72 hours in advance, the 7-8 hr turn around doesn't come into play.

Yep.

Democrats can't even regularly win general elections but they can manipulate the entire world into a hoax.

It is amazing how politicized this virus has become, along with every freaking thing else. There are a ton of people consumed by fake news and memes. I hope we all come to our senses soon and realize we are not somehow divided into two entirely polar opposite groups of humans (many of the people you are having trouble even talking to were very recently your friends) and that the vast majority just want what is right and good.

I’ve known 6 people that got Covid19 so far. 2 of them died and 1 is close to dying now. One has pleurisy 3 months after infection and still trying to fully recover.

One that died was a 21 year old college athlete. His dad got it and survived.

This virus will absolutely kill young athletes. It will also cause permanent damage to their bodies. Just because the majority of them will be fine is not a reason to put them at risk.

Just because you don’t personally know someone that has lost their life to it doesn’t mean that it isn’t killing people. I understand being in denial is a way with coping with the reality of the situation, but hopefully it won’t take you losing someone before you start taking it serious.

Woof, that’s tough. Sorry for the loss of your friends. This thing is not something to mess with.

I just hate that the whole situation has become a political argument so divisive and driven by extremists when it should be the doctors and scientists we should be listening to.

72 hrs good idea
Fans, mask up and sit wherever you like other than the sections not requiring the mask.
Everybody else stay in your basement and cower by the radio
