RE: 2020-2021 Season
I would not be surprised if Asadullah goes 26/14 against us in one of the games next weekend. I would be surprised if he does it in both games. The deciding factor in the games is likely going to be how well LU shoots when Asadullah passes out of the double team. My biggest concern about him is going to be keeping him off the offensive boards. It may be a long night for us if we don't.

I, for one, will not be shocked by Asadullah. My surprise about him this year has been the number of games he has not played all that well. I have not always been impressed with how his team mates have utilized him. The ASUN is going to be surprised by Bellarmine's offensive movement and ability to get good shots. LU and LU properly recognized their last two games as huge in the ASUN standings. I am engaging in rank punditry when I say that Lipscomb may come into Louisville without an appreciation for how important the games will be in the ASUN title race.

Congrats to Liberty, I think the split with Lipscomb was a big plus for them in trying to win the ASUN. I have to admit that my overly optimistic side is beginning to get the better of my normally pessimistic self, but expect the ASUN regular season to come down to the last two games in Lynchburg.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
I am thrilled and filled with nostalgia when I hear the announcers say “Welcome to Freedom Hall” during your broadcasts. That is such a historic building. I can’t imagine any of the ASUN teams know where they are stepping into. I hope it becomes a powerful homecourt advantagebfor y’all. But of course that all depends on Bellarmine success and great fan support.

Please feel free to refer to Lipscomb as “oLU” or “otherLU.” We all know that Liberty is the one real LU of this conference. ;-)

oLU’s, PG KJ Johnson, is very good, but so is your point.

I noticed on BU website that Nick Curran will be calling the play-by-play on ESPN+ for the home games. Good choice! I don't imagine he'll be on BU's road games. I assume the home team provides the announcers?

Unfortunately yes the home team provides the announcers so I won't be hearing Nick much since I will be at the home games. I guess when I watch the replay (doesn't everybody watch the games several times to analyze?) I will be able to enjoy his play-by-play. They have used Nick Holmes for the color analyst for most of the games so far and Forrest covered the Transy game. Nice for the alumni to pick up some work.

Sweet. I "love me some" Nick Curran and enjoy him so much more than Ormay.

I think you are making fun of me for rewatching the games.

I rewatched the MSJ game just to see that Nick Thelan dunk again. He can really run the floor. I love the concerted effort of BU to run with the ball. The team is faster than I realized. Of course Penn is as fast as anybody I've seen playing basketball, but we have some big guys who can get up and down. My guess is Scotty is really going to make Asadullah run the court. He can run, but not sure he will want to run the 9th, 10th, 11th time.

army56mike, you understated
KJ Johnson really good, always under control, threat inside and out. Difference maker tonight. He waited until he got the match-up he wanted in the 2nd half and just torched us.
Not sure what we do different on him tomorrow, hope he gets tired.
We are going to have to give up something and it might be the double on the big guy vs. 12 threes.
Be really nice to beat the pre-season fave and be 1-1 in conference.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
Not a bad first conference game. So close to snagging a victory.

As far as the next one, BU won't enjoy the benefit of unfamiliarity, but the Knights have certainly shown they can hold their own against D-I competition.

A good effort but I agree that it was Johnson not the big guy that made a difference for Lipscomb. Maybe Saturday night we don't concentrate on the double team as much. But even if we play the same game as Friday, can you expect them to shoot 52.2% from behind the line? (Maybe they can??)

RE: 2020-2021 Season
Yeah, welcome to otherLU basketball. They can be so frustrating when they are hitting shots. They are a pretty decent team and can be hard to handle when things are rolling as they want.

However, Bellarmine looked equal to them. The Knights just couldn’t close it out at the end. That was such a great game.

Scotty had a lot of good things to say about oLU coach on postgame. Was looking at oLU website today, he was at Ala-huntsville, in the elite 8 in 2011 and 12, so they are pretty familiar with each other. Think that helped them because they looked really prepared for us.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
Good ball game, but darn we could have won it. If you watch Johnson in warm ups, you would let him shoot threes all day. That is one ugly shot. He has more sidespin on the ball than anyone I have ever seen who can actually make shots. We just did not get enough stops in the second half. I thought they hit some well contested three's. We also missed a few chippies that we should have made.

I don't think we need to change anything defensively. We still have to double the post. Try to close out stronger on the three. Pretty tough when you got three guys hitting over 50% on three's.

I think we need more production from Dylan Penn.

One thing I noticed was that oLU really worked hard to get back to their end of the court after we got a defensive rebound, especially after we sprinted out to that early lead. Made it hard to get cheap baskets on the transition.

That's interesting.

Lipscomb did look pretty well prepared, but it was great to see the Knights catch them at points with some classic BU-style play; it's a challenge to simulate that stuff.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
oLU coach made some adjustments after Friday game. Putting their big guy up at the high post instead of posting up low like he tried Friday worked well. When he dropped down low after screening for his cutters it was more difficult for BU to double team. But despite that I think it was still Lipscomb's defense that made the difference (plus their 3 point shooting in the first half). BU at least made a game of it second half. Our motion offense was stopped cold by their defense. I don't remember getting any easy buckets off the offense. Very poor shooting by the Knights (we had very few uncontested shots).
The one thing I don't understand is when Dylan is near the basket and he ends up in a crowd of 2 or 3 defenders he tends to force a shot when there is none, and there has to be an open teammate somewhere to toss it out to. I know that's easier said than done when he's surrounded by defenders.
But despite all these negatives, the Knights had a chance the second half to turn it around. oLU is a good team that is well coached.

Really nice first conference win, on the road, while not shooting the three well.

Hard to be too excited at the moment, though, after seeing the news (another thread) about lion1983's wife.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
Glad the BU got the win against FGCU but FGCU did not look very good at all - I understand they have had little practice in the last two weeks, but they were very sloppy with the ball. If BU hadn't shot so poorly from 3 pt. range the game would have been more lopsided.
