RE: 2020-2021 Season
It really is disappointing, how am I supposed to go on without BU basketball(u know it's always about me!) I think though the Duke game may end up being the only non con game this year... I agree that nothing is going to change in the next couple of weeks with covid. In fact now that there is a vaccine they are more likely going to shut everything down until it can be distributed to the first responders and the most vulnerable if not until the whole population has it available.

We are lucky our game against Gonzaga got canceled, would have been 120-60

I agree, Kansas was no match for them yesterday.

Thanks for the scoop. I often don't know whether to post in the BU thread on the main part of this board or in this "team talk" specific section, and, over there, I'd asked about television, noting (at least yesterday) there was no such info on the BU site and only a generic coverage bit on Duke's schedule.

Anyway, my DVR is set to record this clash. Hope all the Knights are healthy and eligible to play.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
Looking at the Bellarmine schedule on their website I noticed the conference games played in Freedom Hall all say TV coverage is by ESPN+ but all of the away games make no mention of TV coverage. I thought all of the ASun games were going to
be covered by ESPN+. Does anyone have any insight on this?

I have a feeling they are getting around to adding the TV to the away games. Yesterday they didnt even have the home game TV listed, so maybe in a day or two they will add the away game tv.

Just in case any of my fellow BU fans didn't see this link in the BU thread on the board's main page:
https://www.si.com/college/2020/12/03/be...-davenport

Plus, there's this new one from WDRB:

Nice effort last night, as expected. Scotty traded off 3's for dunks.

Anybody unhappy with their seats.... I know of several and they are opting out. Considering that myself

Very happy with my seats. Pretty much the same view I had in Knights hall.

As for the game, there were some very encouraging aspects, first and foremost was the play of Nick Thelan. Did anyone outside the team see that coming? Secondly, the play of Ethan Claycomb, less of a surprise, but really showed that his stellar play at the end of last season was no fluke. Thirdly, overall I thought we played well defensively. The open 3's are a concern, but it seemed like there were very few times where Duke blew by their defender. Not all the threes were uncontested and Duke made up for some mediocre play by hitting some tough 3s. I also thought we held our own on the boards and outscored them in the paint.

Obviously there are some big concerns, especially on offense. Turnovers being a big one. I suspect that the issue will get cleared up to a large degree by two changes. First, we won't be playing Duke anymore and second, the return of CJ. The game was like the exhibitions we previously played in that we are simply not used to longer, quicker players who effectively cut off the passing lanes. Perhaps my biggest concern is Dylan Penn. I don't like to be too harsh on players as long as they are playing hard, let's just say that Dylan has to play much, much better. I liked a lot of what I saw out of Pedro. I think he pressed a little to hard on shot selection out of an understandable feeling of desperation. He felt the need to put the team on his back and there were several times he could of made the extra pass but shot a contested shot instead. The absence of three point shooting is something that is going to be a lot harder to fix. CJ will help and DeVault will have to be a bigger factor.

Ultimately, one of the biggest advantages Duke had was the fact that they had played two games already. This is especially true this year because no exhibitions or closed door scrimmages were allowed. Normally I suspect that Scotty could get a couple of Scrimmages against some pretty good D1 teams.
Nothing I saw last night made me think that we cannot be highly competitive in the ASUN.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
I had a feeling Thelen had great potential, I just didn't know how soon he would get there. His brother was known for his great work ethic, so hopefully we'll see that from Nick too. He and Michael Mayer were standouts on that 2018-2019 Cov Catholic team that made it to the KY state finals that got beat by Scott County in the final. We know now what a superior athlete Mayer is (as a starting tight end for Notre Dame football he will probably become and All American some day).

RE: 2020-2021 Season
Don't think one could realistically expect for much more. Had an additional shot or two dropped, the margin would've been under twenty points; in the final minute, it was looking like BU would only fall by sixteen or eighteen. And, at least for me, the whole thing was way more fun than watching another season officially open against, say, the likes of Northwood.

As I said on the other thread, I think it was a solid effort by a young team in its first game, without its senior point guard, on the road against a legendary top-ten opponent. Claycomb, Thelen, and Bradshaw impressed. But, among other things, that free throw shooting was atrocious!

If anything, like Moves, I'm even more optimistic about competing in the ASUN right off the bat. Expecting a win over Howard tomorrow (and it looks like yours truly will spring for ESPN+ in order to lawfully watch the titanic clash).

Pretty happy with my Freedom Hall seats too.

P.S. Probably shouldn't be surprised, and I admittedly don't subscribe to either paper (so maybe I missed something), but it looks like the Herald-Leader's article on the Duke game was better than the Courier-Journal's:
https://www.kentucky.com/sports/article247611355.html
https://www.courier-journal.com/story/sp...830861001/

P.P.S. Heard through the grapevine that Younker might be injured. Still not sure why we didn't see Tipton on Friday night.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
Overall a pretty good start to D1. Very competitive versus Duke and very good team effort against Howard. I hope that the rest of the season is against more Howard-like teams than Duke! All this without Fleming(covid), Tipton (back injury) and Younkers which I believe Scotty said was a shoulder injury. Pretty sure CJ would have had the most minutes on the team and Tipton would get close to 20. Who knows what Younkers might do. Unfortunately Scotty said last night none of them would be ready for Wednesday. CJ comes off quarantine Thursday.

Geez, for one night at least, the Mocs looked like the nation's best three-point shooting team.

But the Knights certainly showed they can hang tough with a quality "mid-major" D-I team. Penn continues to impress.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
I may have missed the news on it, but where is Fleming? Noticed Tipton and Younker at the game last night but no sign of CJ. Certainly could have used some additional 3 point shooting last night after getting outshot from distance 17-3 (that made me cringe to type out)
