RE: 2020-2021 Season
I'm sure it was tough sledding to put together a full schedule this year. Happy to see U of Dayton on the schedule. Would be nice down the road to have Xavier on there too plus St. Louis U. Playing in the A10 wouldn't be all that bad, but increasing the school's recognition in places like Nashville and Atlanta where we hope to recruit more students in general is a real priority. I'm exciting to even have a season with the virus raging. We'll see how it pans out.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
An important factor for everybody's season, but that we are unlikely to get information on, is who on the team has already had COVID. The teams whose key players have aleady had the virus may end up having a subsantial advantage over other teams. Probably should have put the team in a small room back in August and let them cough all over each other. I don't know about Bellarmine specifically, but it does seem the virus has run rampant on college campuses since the beginning of the school year., so I suspect many players have already recovered from the virus.

Good story. We have seen similar stories with other transfers. It's surprising that players' previous teams are not as serious about conditioning, even D1 teams.

The article in this morning's CJ about Pitino at Iona made me think that although this year's schedule is set, Iona would be a good matchup for BU - small Catholic Liberal Arts colleges, Pitino with ties back to Louisville and Freedom Hall. Maybe next year?

I am hoping this means that Sam is going to be a major contributor this year. Definitely need the height.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
What yall prognasticating for the season.

I see two definite wins OOC. Transy and MSJ.
Two highly likely wins: Howard and Morgan State
One likely win: Miami
Three fifty/fifty: UT-Chat at home, MTSU home and away
One likely loss: UT-Chat at Chat
Two definite losses: Dayton, Duke

6-5 OOC is my prediction.
9-7 Conference
15-12 for the year.

A run to the final in the ASUN tourney.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
I've gone over it in my head and keep thinking around .500 or maybe a little above, for out-of-conference as well as the overall record for the season.

I envision it going something like Scotty's first season at Bellarmine -- undermanned at times, but gutty play keeps it all interesting, competitive, and fun.

I fondly remember Coach D's very first game at BU back in '05, an exhibition against Louisville. Excited about the hire, I came down from Indy for the game, and it did not disappoint: a very average Knights squad was extremely competitive, down by one at the half, actually had a lead mid-second half, and lost by only seven. I can see BU putting a similar scare into, say, Dayton this season.

At the current time, I'd be happy with reaching the conference tourney semifinals this initial season.

On an unrelated note, but tying in with the breaking ASUN news, it'd be pretty cool if EKU joins the conference; the Colonels could make for a tremendous (and conveniently close) rival for BU.

Can't wait for my cowgirl hat sticker.

BTW, NKU was .500 in the ASUN its first season and they had a fairly mediocre team that would not have won the GLVC and Bezold was still the coach.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
So what's the starting line up?

My guess:
Penn
Fleming
Bradshaw
Claycomb
DeVault

Don't think I'm going out on a limb. I could see Pfriem over Claycomb or DeVault. I am assuming that DeVault is a starter based on the news story that ran about him. Not the content of the story, but the fact that there was a story means that Scotty fed it to the media.

The Triumvirate of sophmore swing men is going to have to make some big contributions.

My big concern is lack of athleticism at point guard. There is no good on ball defenders at guard and we could get ate up on penetration. I guess Al Davis and or Chris Whitehead ain't walking through the door anytime, at least not as a player.

Yep, I've been thinking about the starters and keep coming back to these five.

We need the DeVault size, and it sounds like he's feeling "springy" these days. Penn will provide at least some athleticism in the backcourt. I do see Pfriem getting a lot of playing tine; I liked what I saw out of him last season.

Only a week away from action on the court!

BU website has story on Women's basketball start being moved back to mid December with no real explanation other than the unspoken assumption its the virus. Does anyone on this board have any more insight than that? Or are we just waiting for the other shoe to drop (i.e. the men's team)?

UT-Chat just anounced that there would be no fans at their games through December. As of now they are playing the games, however.

I'm going to sneak in and, thereby being the one fan in attendance, provide BU with a home court advantage.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
Duke student newspaper preview of opponent Bellarmine:
https://www.dukechronicle.com/article/20...ll-preview

They make a point about ten guards being on the roster and only one center, but fail to note the four forwards (at least two of whom will contribute, and I consider Bradshaw more of a forward as well).

The "money shot" is the analysis of the Knights' ceiling (including a jab at the ASUN and an incorrect assumption that BU is NCAA Tourney-eligibile): "It’s not outside the realm of possibility that the Knights sneak into the NCAA tournament in their first year as a Division I team. They play a unique brand of basketball and the ASUN conference is not exactly a powerhouse in basketball. If they keep shooting at the clip they historically have, a tournament bid is in their future."

His overall point that BU's style of play may be tough for the ASUN to handle is a good one. Lots of factual inaccuracies, however. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt that he meant "in their first year of eligibility as a Division 1 team". It also lists Nick Thelan as a starter, which seems unlikely and does not even mention DeVault, who is almost certainly going to be a big contributor. (i'd love to see Nick making a big contribution because that would mean he has made great advances). The idea that Bellarmine plays small ball really is not accurate. As far as D2 was concerned, Bellarmine consistently had one of the longer teams in the division. In reality, Bellarmine is not smaller than other ASUN teams and not smaller than non power five teams in general.

As probably most of us suspected BU men are moving their first 3 games back into December if they can reschedule. First game will now be in Cameron at Duke. They have already rescheduled the Transy game but will have to try and find a time for the UT Chattanooga away game and the Dayton away game. My only concern is that in all reality I don't see this virus situation being any better 2 weeks from now for the Dec. 4th trip to Durham. I hate to be a pessimist but I fear many games won't be played (I think there is going to be additional "kick the can down the road" days) or at least the games are going to be played in front of -0- fans.

Not surprising, but this stinks; I was so excited about the possibility of the season starting on Wednesday.

And I agree that this is likely not the end of the postponed/canceled games.
