Darn it -- I liked watching him play and thought he could be significant contributor going forward.

Hoping this just means there's just a glut of talent at the guard position.

He always played very hard. I'm not sure he ever got a chance to show off his offensive skills. Good luck to him.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
Anybody heard anything recently about Sam DeVault and whether there's a chance he could get some sort of waiver to play this season (assuming we get one)?

Nothing specifically. I know the NCAA decided not to change the rule for 2020-21, but that they are going to change it for 2021-22 and allow one transfer without sitting out a year. https://www.cbssports.com/college-basket...uary-2021/

I am guessing that given the anticipated change, waivers will be liberally granted.

IMO, the rule should be changed for the good of the players, but fans and teams will not like the increase in tranfers. You also wonder how much "recruiting" of other schools' players is going to go on. The change will hurt D2, there likely will be fewer D1 xfers to D2.

BTW there was a Bellarmine poster who seemed to have some inside information that Devault would be immediately eligible, but I have not seen any confirmation.

Yeah, Scotty sounded quite optimistic when the transfer was announced, but, admittedly, that was some time ago.

Schedule should be announced in "early August":

Wonder when the roster will be announced? According to Verbal Commits, there is still one more scholarship position availabe for 20-21. I also wonder if moving to D1 will remove some of the mystery around player issues. Scotty may face some more specific questioning about personnel. I don't mean this as criticism, I agree with the idea of keeping things quiet if you can get away with it This story is a good example. If this were UofL, the coach would be getting a bunch of questions about why someone transferred and who will they have to take his place.

Announced today - Austin Peay transfer Sam DeVault was granted immediate eligibility for the upcoming season. Not sure what to expect from him, but should be a help with the departing frontcourt grads (Weyer, Palombizio, Cook)

Good news. I am with you, my expectations are not great, but hoping I am pleasantly surprised. He does seem to have a little more meat on his bones than does Baylor Yonker. In video I've seen, he does not look to be real quick. He can definitely hit the three, but not sure if he will be an inside defensive force, which is what we really need.

Great news! I can see him being a contributor from the outset.

Curse you, COVID-19!

It will be interesting to see how much this delays the schedule release and how impacted the schedule is by all the pandemic goings-on.

What was the opening game?

At this point, it doesn't look like there will be a basketball season, despite the fact that colleges are starting back and the kids are spreading the virus among themselves anyway. The more young people realize that there is almost zero risk to them from COVID, the more they will socialize with each other. There is no putting the genie back in th bottle. The virus will continue to spread regardless of cancellations. I have yet to hear any rationale for not going about our usual business. If it makes people feel better we can all wear masks.

It is abundantly clear that shutdown v. reopening is a political hot potato, which makes no rationale sense. Not sure that right or left has or should have anything to do with it. If it were just right v. left I could understand it to a degree. It clearly has become a Trump v. anti-Trump thing, however. If Trump had been and remained a staunch advocate of shutting down, I'm pretty sure that schools, including colleges, would be full bore for opening up. Of course, Trump is significantly to blame for this attitude with his extremely inarticulate handling of COViD (and other) issues.

If someone knows the rationale for continuing to shut things down, please let me know what it is. I do not believe I have heard it explained by any government official.

What i would really like to hear discussed in a cold, calculated method is what are the risks of dieing from COVID 19 for every age and for every co-morbidity.

RE: 2020-2021 Season
The 2020-21 schedule was released this afternoon. While I am skeptical non-conference games get played (but keeping my fingers crossed!), three games stuck out to me (preseason rankings from NBC Sports):
- UCLA #26 (Nov 10)
- Duke #6 (Nov 17)
- Gonzaga #3 (Dec 21)

Those games have to be a boost for name recognition and recruiting, so hoping all the work put into getting those games scheduled pays off

I am not sure we could have asked for anything more in a schedule. Lets hope it actually happens. I will be so disappointed if it does not. Of course if it does happen, its likely to be TV only for the fans.

Really good mix of power teams and legit D1 teams that we will have a chance to beat. Kicking off the ASUN against Liberty in Knights Hall will be fantastic. I like the games against Mississippi State and Miami U, games that we could pull an upset. Of course UCLA, Duke and Gonzaga are great exposure, I would think there is a good chance they will be on one of the ESPN channels

The roster has been updated. There is one addition that was not previously announced. Zac Jennings from Cooper H.S. is a freshman. There is a bunch of video of him on Max Preps

BU did a terrific job putting that schedule together.

I was cautiously optimistic that Scotty's multitude of connections would help in putting together games against big-time foes, and you have to think that's the case.

Fingers crossed that we can see at least some, if not all, of those non-conference games.

Pretty cool that Krzyzewski and Cronin sent messages in honor of the occasion:

Assuming all games are played (big assumption,I know) a 15-14 record is possible.i think that would be a great start to D1

RE: 2020-2021 Season
I am thinking there are 4 definite losses (UCLA, Duke, Gonzaga, Mississippi st.) two definite wins (Hanover, Mt. St. Joes) acouple most likely losses (Miami, @chattanooga,) and 6 possible wins (Samford inv 3 games, middle tn, chatt @home, @morgan) i think 5-8 would be very good outcome.
