RE: NMSU dominant in WAC Tournament...
Didn't the WAC announce that CBU will be eligible for the WAC Tourney. But, they are still not eligible for the NCAA tourney. So, a few questions:

For the 2021 WAC tourney there will be 7 teams. How would be bracket work? #6 vs #7, then the winner plays #3 seed, #4 vs #5, with the top 2 seeds getting byes?

What happens if CBU wins the WAC Tourney? Will the WAC's automatic bid, go to a P5 8th place team?

I think if CBU gets to the semi finals, the refs will heavily favor the other team, so that the WAC can actually send a team to the NCAA and get their money!

I think if I remember correctly, if CBU wins the WAC Tournament, the NCAA bid will be awarded to the regular season champion or the highest finishing "eligible" team in the final standings (if CBU happens to win the regular season as well). Otherwise, the other six teams will be competing for the NCAA bid in the WAC tourney.

As for the WAC Tournament brackets, I can imagine, the WAC will default to what was done prior. The #1 seed will get a first round bye in the WAC tournament while the other six play.

The impression I get from the other commenters here, some of whom seem to actually know this stuff, is that the WAC gets to send someone period. If CBU wins it could be the 2nd place team, or the regular season winner, or some other method decided ahead of time by the conference. But maybe one of the experts should weigh in.

EDIT: PistolPete knows better....and types faster.

Bingo. However, the other post-season tournaments are all for the taking.

If the CBI and CIT resume this coming season, all WAC teams will be eligible. The only two tournaments that are operated by the NCAA are the NCAA Tournament (of course) and NIT. The CBI and CIT are pay to play. On a side note, I doubt NMSU will ever play in the CBI or CIT. If NMSU doesn't make it to either the NCAA or NIT, the University will not fund the cost to participate in a post season tournament. They will just end the season and start preparing for the following one.

Looked it up. $50K is a lot of money, surprised we went for it. I can also see that for NMSU it would be a letdown rather than an opportunity.
