We'll see when the games are played, but I'm not even that optimistic about Drew out of the gates. Let's check back after Year 3. Anyone who pretends to know what kind of program Drew will be running before then is lying to themselves and others.

Battle of the Border States.

I remember how gung ho some GCU fans were when they first joined the WAC. Putting out predictions of what Tan Dan and the Lopes would accomplish. GCU itself working fans into a frenzy about what was to come.

Tarleton doing stuff similar. I blame the purple Koolaid.

To be fair its really just one guy on here. I know a lot of people that went to Tarleton and the ones that keep up with things arent too optimistic. I actually have to talk up how competitive they might be right off the bat.

RE: NMSU dominant in WAC Tournament...
GCU waited 4 years to make its big splash in the WAC tournament. Only to find out that beating NMSU in a winner take all environment was much tougher than originally thought. I find it interesting that now that the Lope faithful have been around the block (D1 eligible) a few years, they are taking more a wait and see attitude when it comes to their basketball program. The brashness and ready to conquer the world attitude is much more measured these days. I'm sure Tarleton State fans are tired of the Aggie fan's arrogance on this board. But NMSU fans have seen a lot of basketball success over the years. We have won and lost against the best in our respective conferences have had to offer. We have paid our dues. I am sure the Lope fans will regain their swagger once they topple NMSU for the first time. GCU is entering its 8th years in D1 basketball. So, if they finally do topple NMSU at some point in the future, they have paid their dues in D1 basketball. And, I feel they will now respect the accomplishment. At that point, NMSU will have a basketball rival.

No truer words, my friend.

Seriously though, all I've ever really said is Tarleton won't suck. I put us in the middle of the pack, which quite frankly, is a fair and humble assessment.

The problem with *some* on here, is they can't stand the fact that I'm not overly impressed with NMSU's "dominance". They've enjoyed a good long run, but I think their time is going to be up over the next few years. The WAC will start to even out a little and become competitive, and thats a good thing. Who knows, we might even get more than one bid!

Yep, I do bleed purple and get chippy when *some* of you automatically dismiss Tarleton as chumps. And yes, admittedly I do want us to win now, but I'm realistic and know it will take a few years to transition. But, having said that, I also know there has never been a more successful D2 program moving up into the WAC than Tarleton. We might, just MIGHT have less of a learning curve than the other D2 moveups that came before us. Really can't wait to find out.

Lmfao, match what CBU did in year 1 this coming season. Match what CBU did in year 2 in your second season. I guarantee you won’t! You’re a joke, the other Tarleton fans seem cool though.

GCU finished 15-15 overall and 10-6 in the WAC for a 3rd place finish in its first season in D1 basketball. And, in GCU's second season, it finished 17-15 overall and 8-6 in the WAC for a 2nd place finish.

CBU finished 16-15 overall and 7-9 in the WAC for a 5th place finish in its first season in D1 basketball. And, in CBU's second season, it finished 21-10 overall and 10-6 in the WAC for a 2nd place finish.

If Tarleton State can match or exceed what GCU and CBU accomplished their first two seasons, then Texan fans will have something to crow about.

The overall record is doable being that they don't have to play a full D1 schedule. The telling thing is how they do in league play.

GCU 32-30 WAC 18-12
CBU 37-25 WAC 17-15

Also GCU and CBU are private schools w/o football.

Pete, you're a gentleman and a scholar. I really hope you rub off onto to some of your fellow nmsu fans. Just a few. You have on me. Great way to divert and get back on topic without engaging in the BS. Cheers. 04-cheers

I think we'll do fairly well. Not shocking the world but giving teams a good run for their money, especially later in the season. Maybe slightly under.500 overall. Either way there's only one way to find out and I'm ready for NCAA sports.

Me too. I think the brutal ooc schedule BCG is putting together is going to make his young team mature in a hurry. I see rhem coming into conference play as a fast and scrappy bunch. Toward the back end of conference play is when we'll we know what we've got and where we're going.

Until proven differently, right now it is
@NMStateMBB
at the top of the WAC, 50 feet of crap and then the rest of the WAC teams.

Aggies didn’t rebuild like most teams, didn’t replace a HC or lose too much star power like most teams in the WAC did.

RE: NMSU dominant in WAC Tournament...
NMSU is the mountain other WAC schools must climb in order to win the WAC

Dribble Handoff: Predicting college basketball's next Cinderella team to make the Final Four

In the article...

New Mexico State

"The WAC is New Mexico State's to run until further notice. The Aggies have won five conference regular-season championships over the last decade and three under Chris Jans, who took over in 2018."

"What Jans has accomplished in short order is both remarkable and, thus far, shockingly sustainable. He's already doubled the program's WAC championships from three to six, made NCAA Tournament appearances in every season he's been at the helm, and established him and his program as the beacon of greatness in the conference in the process. And Jans and his staff have not only won, but won big, claiming those conference regular-season titles by multiple games. They are 31-1 in league play the last two seasons!"

"Sustaining such a level of dominance would be practically unheard of, but doing so would grant them a bite at the apple to make the tournament -- and potentially make deep runs -- on an annual basis. With eight NCAA Tournament appearances over the last decade and no Sweet 16s to show for it, it's only a matter of time before the Aggies break through in a big way. -- Kyle Boone"

Rice's guide (left) hand could be better placed but his (right) elbow is 90°, his shoulders are squared up, and if he follows through on his release with a flick of the wrist as the ball leaves his finger tips then his shooting form is adequate. His shot release just needs to be consistent and repeatable as a made shot. Rice shots 38.5% from beyond the arc last season and made 50 threes. With regards to three point shooters, besides accuracy, I'm more concerned with a shooter having a high release point (and high trajectory) and a quick release (sets up quick). When playing good defensive teams which have length and speed; typically found in the NCAA Tournament, a good mid-major team needs to have shooters who can still get their shot off accurately under the toughest of conditions.
