One thing I agree with you on. I went to NIU because it was a D1 football school that IN THEORY has the ability to compete for tier-one championships. I'm out if that isn't the case anymore.

D1, D2, Pop Warner, Chicago Intramural league....

IDC, I'm about NIU. Whatever we do, even at it's worse is a step back. But it's only temporary.

Yep, it's part of the reason I chose NIU as well. I want D1, not FCS, D2 etc.

It's the entire reason I attended NIU as well. I fell in love with NIU football watching the Maryland game on FSN, then stayed on the ride through College Gameday at BG, and was hooked for life.

If it was ISU, EIU, SIU, or WIU with FBS football instead of NIU, I would've attended that school instead.

I gave a football scholarship 20 years ago conditioned on them staying in D1. If they move to D2 I shall request my $ back.

Back when they were being built, I donated a lot of money to both the Yordon Center and Chessick Center. My only condition was that my friend Madddawgz always be given a forum on this board to express his views. And now you know the rest of the story! 05-hide 04-bolt

RE: Akron D2 Study
Incremental improvements is the way to go, not some big rebuild or new stadium that commits too much up front and requires long-term repayments (the Akron problem). Also easier to sell smaller projects. In these times, massive efforts that produced the (badly needed) Yordan and Chessick facilities are not going to fly.

No mention of Akron's MAC East Championship, trip
to MACC, and Boca Raton Bowl appearance in 2017.
Also attendance is more of a MAC issue. There are
about 25 G5 teams that outdraw the MAC's attendance leader Toledo. A number of those G5 programs have better attendance figures than some P5 members.

Stay D1.. why do people think if we drop, we will all of the sudden have sell outs and playing for championships every year? The same level of kids won't be coming to NIU if we are D2 and we will still have the same issues of people not coming to the games.

RE: Akron D2 Study
Leaving D1 would definitely eventually cost the University more than it would save, one way or another. You will lose some potential future students who want the D1 vibe, you will lose some alumni $ (major donors included) that see FBS-level sports as a major link to the University, etc.. All of these losses and more, and we'd still be funding a football team with some travel and way less P5 $ coming in. Would be an insane move.

Every G5 school is going through some form of this right now. I predict the world will look fairly normal to Huskie fans next fall, biggest difference hopefully will be the half built Facebook compound going up a short scooter ride away from campus :)

Id like to believe that, something feels permanent about this athletics reshuffling though
