College football in the spring will be a problem when some schools field 3 teams.

Regular, Sprint and club football.

The National Club Football Association announced that they will play in the spring.

Sprint football is played in the spring anyways.

"Deferred" Fall sports will be cancelled, they wont be played in Spring. This is a last ditch prayer, but it wont be answered.

Cub sports are not going to happen at all. There is no way they are going to pass protocols (testing, quarantines, et al) to be allowed.

Other thread links MAAC cancelling fall sports. That's 7 of 32 Division I.

Edit-with Big West out, its now 8 of 32:
America East
Metro Atlantic
Atlantic 10
Ivy
Patriot
MEAC
SWAC
Big West

And the northern half of the Colonial is out.

That's a problem for very few schools, considering only like 10 schools play sprint, and not all of them sponsor varsity football. Most of them don't use the same facilities either, as varsity and club sports rarely share facilities.

Bigger issue could be all the other sports if everything is in the spring, as a lot of schools have one arena for basketball, volleyball, wrestling, hockey, etc.

Big West is out, but not necessarily CP/UCD/Hawai'i football

Hawaii football needs special treatment from the governor to lift the quarantine. Don't see that happening. Hard to see Cal Poly or UC Davis playing football with other sports shut down and all instruction remote. They don't have the money on the line that the Cal States in the MWC and the UC schools in the Pac-12 are concerned about. They also don't have anywhere near the budgets.

I am actually surprised the Big Sky, Missouri Valley Football, Ohio Valley, Southern and Southland have not yet cancelled or postponed. Same also for the non-scholarship Pioneer (how can they possibly play, given their teams are made up mostly of regular students?).

I think this may even prove a problem for G5 conferences with the P5 all playing conference only.

Apparently 4 SoCon schools feel stronger about playing, VMI, Citadel, Chattanooga, and Mercer.

https://twitter.com/BrianMacWriter/statu...3015389193

I wonder if the SoCon will do what the CAA did, cancel their championships but allow schools to make their own schedules. JMU/Elon from the CAA are still trying to play, so maybe they all link up for the year?

David—there are something like 10 sprint teams. That’s not going to be a problem.

Varsity will supersede club sports every day and twice on Sunday.

That and Sprint football is a fall sport.

MAC cancelled all fall sports. So that is 9 of 32. Big Sky hasn't decided on other fall sports yet.

Northeast has cancelled. 10 out of 32.

Question: Will we see the MWC, C-USA, Sunbelt, and maybe even the AAC follow suit?

From the Big 10 CSNBBS site: "The conference said it will keep evaluating the situation with fall sports programs each day, including “the feasibility of proceeding forward with the season at all.”

Yes. Just a matter of time.

NEC, Big Sky and MVFC need to be added to the list of shut down, although a couple schools are trying to keep their revenue road trips ...

Added NEC. My list is for all fall sports. Big Sky and MVFC have only cancelled (for now) football.

The MVFC conference is only football. It is not the same as the MVC.

The MVC delaying the start of other sports. But this is not the MVFC

ODU cancelled all fall sports.

Northeast has cancelled. 10 out of 32.

Colonial is for all practical purposes out making it 11 out of 32. JMU and W&M have cancelled, leaving just Elon, UNCW and College of Charleston. (edit remaining 3 cancelled on 8/10).

MWC cancelling makes it 12 out of 32. Getting close to a majority of Division I. Suspect WCC, Horizon and MVC will soon follow. Southern Conference meeting TH and ETSU president has said fall sports are "virtually impossible."

Summit is 13/32.
