Recently reading an article exploring the reasons why Chicago is literally exploding. Much of it is tied directly to drugs. Specifically coming from Mexican cartels. Chicago is both a Destination and Crossroad for the flow. Drugs be at retail or wholesale is a significant contributor.

Chicken or the egg? Along with the explosion of gun violence has been the growth of gangs in Chicago. Currently the two together combust to drive the destruction of so much innocence. The City with Broad Shoulders is not new to this phenomenon.

Gangs are surrogate families or are to the nuclear family that hasn’t existed in the inner city since the war poverty started. Most if not all drawn along ethnic lines. Further heightening tension. But it really comes down to $. Ethnicity is bridged by $. Gangs will cooperate as long as they can collect.

This and Covid are crowding out the dialogue and real work that needs to be accomplished to bridge divides, instill hope and get at root causes.

So a secured border and increased police presence are just a start. Follow the money trail and figure out
whose getting greased to let the toxic environment continue.

Per capita crime in Detroit is even worse. The freeway shootings the past month have been bad and the gun violence this year have risen to alarming numbers.
