That is not what the CDC is saying. They have said that 10 times as many people may have been infected but have not been tested. That lowers the death rate substantially.

This is not a call to hide in the bunker, excuse me, to inspect the bunker.

Other countries are opening carefully and with consistent policies of social distancing, large scale testing, contact tracing and masking. They are keeping case levels low.

Only the U.S. and Captain Chaos are bumbling into an out of control pandemic with incoherent and inconsistent announcements that may turn out tomorrow to have been just "sarcasm". Or then again, maybe "I never kid".

No other country on the planet is bungling this so badly. That is inexcusable.

This is absolutely not true. There is literally ZERO data that says we are the worst at this. We have not done as well as the Asian countries (they are used to dealing with these types of infections) but have done on par or better than our European counter parts.

If you want to say we should be doing better because this is the USA, I agree. We should be the best but this constant need to act like we have no idea what we are doing is comical.

Youyang Gu of https://covid19-projections.com/ estimates the current IFR (infection fatality rate) is 0.2%-0.4%. This was as of July 2nd.

We need to bring back all sports, but with no fans allowed in the stadium. However, since "protesters" are apparently immune to infection, they will be granted the right to purchase "protest" licenses (complete with seating) for all games.

On September 5th, a protest against Mars Hill has been scheduled in Greene Stadium. A small area will be set aside for counter protests. Concessions will be available.

When protestors, rioters, criminals, bulgars, anarchists, arsonists, and hell raisers hit the streets breaking every COVID-19 rule — liberal politicians fell over themselves offering up excuses with their pandering BS — with too many declaring that this was not a health threat! That’s when this thing went off the rails and turned into insanity, an insanity that’s still raging in total convoluted and incoherent ways. So, if these mobs did not cause an escalation in infections, as a number of these idiot politicians declared, then many others who were watching asked — why not start ignoring the guidelines as well since these protestors/rioters are proving the experts wrong? (And this has not contributed to the recent escalations?) So as sports fan, if we follow this line of “reasoning”, we can show up at the stadiums this fall as protestors and immune from COVID-19. Absurd? No more so than what’s going on out there and being propagated in this present environment.

Now there is leadership! Better than injecting disinfectant, I suppose.

Medical experts in this administration have had to tiptoe around the enormous ego of the boss and whatever nonsense he may have picked up from Sean Hannity and company. Injecting disinfectant! FBS leagues are starting to drop their non-conference games. Is this just step one in canceling the entire season?

And one thing about the on-going discussion. I will note there is considerable confusion about what to do to protect yourself. But do other countries have a media and politicians who are this hell-bent and foaming at the mouth to disagree with every single thing their leader says to make him look like a fool? Of course it's hard to know what the right thing to do is, when one side does everything they can to discredit the other.

RE: 2020-2021 Schedule
In today’s (Saturday, July 11, 2020) Bristol Herald Courier they note that Covid-19 cases have more than doubled from 657 to 1,421 in the last 2 weeks in the 10 Northeast Tennessee counties (Carter, Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington).
So have the Bristol Virginia cases, which will surprise no one who has seen the activity in the bars along State Street.
https://www.heraldcourier.com/news/local...aad76.html

Ballad Health COO Eric Deaton says that their Covid-19 patients are doubling every week.

Tennessee’s new cases hit 1,955 for the day on Friday. New cases in the U.S. hit 71,000 for the day according to https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

Probably just a hoax which will disappear after election day, though, yes?

I’ve got to disagree with Fan1: there is not much expert controversy over what needs to be done (social distancing, masking, testing, contact tracing). Countries which have done this (European Union, South Korea, Taiwan, etc.) have generally done pretty well, even while cautiously reopening parts of their economy.

The disagreement is whether to follow the consensus of medical advice – and that is almost entirely a political disagreement.

After all, masks may be the devil’s work https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqLkhxLp1fo

And as Ohio Republican legislator Nino Vitale says, we should NOT test for Covid-19!!! https://www.cnn.com/2020/07/09/politics/...index.html
Wonder where he got that idea?

Rod may be right. We may be bungling this less badly than Brazil. Hooray for us! Although, our Covid-19 numbers are still worse than Brazil in both cases per capita and deaths per capita. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ I’m glad to hear that President Trump’s friend Bolsonaro is taking his hydroxychloroquine. I wonder if the President has repeated his suggestion that they try injecting disinfectant or “introducing light into the body”?

Sorry to Fan1 if that seems to make our leader look foolish - but his words have consequences for us all. It's not too much to wish that he were actually following medical advice.

Nah — fan1 speaks with reason and balance. Trump, love him or hate him, Washington Dems and their liberal media comrades find NOTHING he says or does as credible. He could find a vaccine himself in a back lab of the White House to end COVID-19, pay for the vaccines for every American out of his own pocket, and these liberals would demand to see his tax returns to see how he itemized this. Of, they would bring more impeachment charges against him for abuse of power or failing to follow FDA guidelines. Hey, the man can do nothing right. They loathe him.

Can guarantee one thing, if Hillary Clinton occupied the WH, we would be at an entirely different place now, especially psychologically and emotionally — even with double or triple the cases and deaths from COVID-19. She would be presented and held up by our mass information conglomerate as the compassionate, wise, and loving leader working 24/7, even as she made some missteps or uttered some misspoken words, at solving this crisis and winning this battle thus deserving the support of the American people on par with that given Franklin Roosevelt during World Waf II.

Incidentally, I don’t like some of the stuff Trump utters and his unnecessary insults. However, his exaggerations and hyperbole are often responses to rather outrageous bombs tossed at him by his opponents, which, on examination, are more incendiary than the things he says. Obviously, he ain’t Mr Charismatic — being just the opposite of Mr. Obama. But, considering the alternatives there in the deep state of CORRUPT Washington, one is forced to weigh the “less of the evils”.

WOW!

Somebody's swallowed the Koolaid!

This is what Trump means when he said "I could shoot somebody on 5th Avenue, and not lose any votes."

There are no facts that can convince some one who talks like '66. I can only take comfort in the fact that almost 3 million more Americans voted against the guy last time. And it looks like more will this time.

Frankly, I have no interest in your political opinions — or those of anybody else who wants to clutter up what is supposed to be a basketball discussion board. This thread has devolved to having the merest tangential connection to ETSU basketball.

The generic "ETSU" forum would be a great place to have political discussions, and any comment that doesn't draw a straight line between politics and ETSU Basketball, or other Buccaneer sports, probably belongs over there.

I think we'll all be happier if we keep the focus on sports in the sports forums.

RE: 2020-2021 Schedule
(07-11-2020 02:54 PM)swvabucsfan Wrote:  In today’s (Saturday, July 11, 2020) Bristol Herald Courier they note that Covid-19 cases have more than doubled from 657 to 1,421 in the last 2 weeks in the 10 Northeast Tennessee counties (Carter, Cocke, Greene, Hamblen, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington).
So have the Bristol Virginia cases, which will surprise no one who has seen the activity in the bars along State Street.

As with your b-ball posts. A lot of words without really saying anything.

People are going to get this virus. It was never about stopping the eventual spread. It was assumed people were going to eventual get this. The goal was to spread the cases out. Why has the goal changed? Don’t answer with another 10 paragraph post. We know why it changed.
